Rosalie carefully tucked a loose lock of her long hair behind her ear, stealing a glance at the clock on the opposite wall once more. Though it had only been ten minutes past midnight, neither Rostan nor any of his servants had appeared to usher them to Haemir.

'Could that have been a lie? It's been a mere ten minutes, but my anxiety has stretched it into an eternity. I haven't slept since we left Rische. Perhaps I should have seized the opportunity to take a nap during our brief respite...'

Observing the lady's pale, nervous face, Altair approached her with measured steps. He gently rested his hand on her shoulder, offering a kind and reassuring smile.

His low, soothing voice resonated through her, sending shivers down her spine.
