Chapter 1 - Lost
『 Midoriya POV 』
'I... I lost...'
I thought to myself as I stared at my wounded reflection that was dancing along the blue water of the wide ocean that surrounded the small island that I'm stuck in.
It's been a few days since I arrived here, and thankfully, there are some edible fruits on the small number of trees on this island, which is barely enough to satisfy my growing hunger.
Though, what's surprising to me is that, even though not by much, I can feel that those fruits are providing my body its much desired nutrients than the norm as I can feel myself getting better and better each time I ate them, making my wounds heal a bit faster than normal.
And fortunately, or not, I'm not saddened by the fact that I was stuck here, I was more sad about the fact that I failed to do my mission.
The mission that should have turned the nightmarish days to a joyful and peaceful ones.
*Slap!*
"No! Don't give up!"
After slapping my cheeks, I muttered some words of comfort to myself as I refused to give up, to disappoint the trust that my friends and teachers put on me.
"So what if I fail that mission?! There's still a possibility that a second chance will reveal itself, I just gotta get stronger to be able to grab that chance!!"
I yelled out as loud as I could to release some pent-up stress before laying on the hot sands of this island.
"But for now..."
Glancing around the more or less two acre sized islet once more, for the hundredth time.
"... I shall take my time to recover."
I muttered to myself as I remember how helpless I was when I tried to fight a group of weak villains when I didn't eat and sleep for several days.
The consequence of that fight is my failure to save the captured civilians and heroes that were being held as a hostage.
'I refuse to feel that helplessness ever again!'
I thought to myself before I entered the most peaceful land that anyone could enter, the dreamland.
I enter the dreamland with ease as I know that I could leave this island whenever I wished for. After all, I could just fly my way out of here.
It's just that I need to recover first before doing that.
After all, I don't know how far the civilization would be from this island, or even if I would stumble into a civilized island if I leave this uncivilized one.
Putting aside those thoughts, as darkness began to invade my mind, the dreamland itself started to swallow me whole as I tried to think to myself more, only to fail.
『 Omniscient POV 』
Not far away from the west of the island where Young Midoriya is sleeping, a dinghy boat can be seen moving away from a shinking ship.
On the small boat, a small, timid, chubby boy with pink hair and round-frame glasses can be seen swaying two paddles using his small and weak arms.
Along with him is a teen who is sitting at the bow of the boat, facing the direction that they are heading to.
The teen has a straw hat on top of his black shaggy hair, and he can be seen enjoying the fresh air that's touching his face.
Joy can be seen in his round black eyes as his slim, muscular build continues to relax itself.
"I st-still can't bel-believe it..."
Muttered the pink haired boy as he stared at the back of his savior as he continued to paddle.
Thankfully, he doesn't have to paddle too hard as the dinghy boat that they are in has a small mast and thus, the wind is reducing the work of the boy to get away from the shinking ship.
"Y-y-you defeated that whale with one punch... WITH JUST ONE PUNCH!!"
The boy began with a few stuttering before his voice gained some strength, to the point he had shouted out at the end of his sentence.
Hearing him, the teen just turned his head for a bit before he shrugged his shoulders.
"Shishishi~~ it's not that hard. You just gotta train rea~l hard!! And I'm sure you'd be able to do that too! Shishishi~~~!"
The teen answered with a unique laughter before he fully turned around to focus on his companion.
The boy could only smile wryly as he shook his head while thinking.
'Is that really possible?'
"By the way, Coby, do you see that?"
Unaware of the boy's thoughts, the teen asked the boy, who turned out to be Coby, as he pointed towards a certain small island.
Seeing his pointed finger, Coby removed such thoughts in his mind before he stopped paddling and tried to look for the thing that his savior was pointing at.
"There, there! Can't you see it?"
The teen impatiently waited for Coby to find it before he started to talk excitedly.
Seeing such bazaar excitement from the teen, Coby released a small smile before he finally found it.
"Yes, I can... but Luffy-san, why do you ask?"
Coby answered his savior before he asked a question of his own.
"Let's go to that islet!"
Ignoring Coby's question, the teen's mouth revealed a toothy smile before he said that out loud.
『 Midoriya POV 』
"He-help!!"
"Ple-please don-!!"
Cries of agony.
"No!"
"Sto-stop-!"
Screams of pain.
"Please, someone save us!"
"Please help us!!"
And wails for a savior can be heard as I appear to be in the middle of this chaos.
Burning and collapsed building scattered everywhere, with some debris burying alive civilian to their death.
*Bang!*
I watched as a newly destroyed building fell onto a group of civilians trying to escape from this... hell.
I tried to move my body to save them, but I failed to even flinch a finger as I stood still at my place.
"What the hell is happening!!"
I screamed desperately as I tried to move once more, as more debris fell onto the running civilians.
"No!!"
I yelled out as I once again failed to do anything.
My heart is aching with pain as well as helplessness, the cursed emotion that I hate with my whole being.
*Boom!*
*Bang!*
As more deaths happened around me, loud explosions and bangs of hard cement took away my attention from the cursed emotions within me.
Looking up, I saw a strong looking lady that has a large body build, floating on top of a partially broken tower.
And as if noticing my gaze, the lady looked down and stared onto my eyes with a mysterious look.
As I stare at her, her face that is showing great bravery and determination was suddenly overlapped by a blooded face, which is full of burned wounds.
But the bravery and determination are still evident in her face.
Making me feel something... unknown to me.
Unknown but familiar...
But before I could think about it for more, a large explosion suddenly erupted that swallowed everything whole... before I jolted up and woke up from my deep slumber.
Salty and big sweats run down on my back and armpits as my face shows a scared look.
"Stripes..."
I muttered to myself as I finally realized who the strong looking woman was.
"But why?"
I asked myself as I brought my palms onto my face while trying to make sense of my dream.
'No, it's unlikely that this dream of mine will happen.'
"After all... she's already dead."
I thought to myself before I voiced out my final thought.
"Who's dead?"
And as I was thinking to myself, I was shocked by the sudden question that an unfamiliar voice asked.
My first reaction was to distance myself from the voice that came from the left side of my back.
"Wow~! You're fast!"
A new voice exclaimed with excitement and awe when it saw how quick I moved away from... them.
"..."
Finally seeing the source of the voice, my tense muscles relax for a bit as I noticed that the duo before me has no intentions to harm me.
For one, the duo is in no stance for a fight or is lacking the intent for one, for two is that, one of the duo is just a chubby boy while the other is someone that is likely at my age and lastly, my [ Danger Sense ] is not really giving me a sense of danger from them, right now that is.
"Who... are you?"
That is why I sighed in relief before I inquired the first question to appear in my mind.
"H-h-hi! I'm Coby, and this is-"
"Monkey D. Luffy, the future Pirate King!!"
The first to answer my question is the younger boy who I now identify as the first voice that I heard before he was suddenly interrupted by the teen one, who yelled out his... dream?
'Weird dream but okay.'
I thought to myself before I respond to them with.
"Nice to meet you, Coby-kun and Luffy-san. My name is Izuku Midoriya."
Hearing that, Luffy-san and Coby-kun both nodded their heads before they sat on the ground where Midoriya previously sat.
"..."
And was soon followed by Midoriya, who sat right in front of them.
『 Omniscient POV 』
"So~, who died?"
Asked Coby after a few moments of silence that was produced by all of them.
Luffy, on the other hand, just stared at the boy in front of them, like a predetor that is watching its prey, which would be devour at any moment.
"... No one really, I just remembered someone who I looked up to but has already... passed away."
Although startled by the question, Midoriya only hesitated for a bit before he decided to tell the truth.
'After all, not like that kind of information can bring harm to me.'
Midoriya thought to himself as he uncomfortably repositioned himself.
"Anyway, what are you guys doing here? No, scratch that. Do you guys know where we are right now?"
The young hero asked the duo that he had just met as he hoped that they came from a close village island or something similar.
"Not really~~ shishishishi~"
Though, as if to shatter that hope, Luffy just carelessly answered his question in a sing-song tone that was followed by a unique laughter.
"Wha-what do you mean "Not really~~"?"
Midoriya asked while stuttering because he simply didn't expect such a response from someone of his age.
'Carefree but vigilant, really what kind of person are you Luffy-san?"
Midoriya thought as he noticed how he could not find a single relax muscle at Luffy's body.
"We-well, truth be told, we just went here simply because Luffy-san decided to."
Midoriya doesn't know what to think about the teen in front of him anymore when he heard the response of the pink haired boy.
'Wait! Considering we are on a small island, wouldn't that mean they have a means of travel close by? Like a helicopter or a ship? But if it is a helicopter, I should have noticed them before they could even approach me. Then does that mean they have a ship close by? Please let that be true.'
The green haired teen mumbled inside of his mind before he turned to look at Luffy and said.
"If that's the case, how did you guys get here?"
Instead of words, however, the duo just pointed their index fingers towards the shore.
Though, one of Luffy's little fingers was at one of the holes of his nostrils, digging for treasures.
'Ignore it for now, ignore it for now, ignore it for now~'
Fortunately or not, Midoriya is already beginning to adjust his mind at Luffy's antics, even though it has just been more or less 30 minutes since the trio met.
And because of this adjustment, his mind had already formed a mantra that could still somewhat contain Midoriya's sanity.
'Wow, color me surprised...'
Though the moment his eyes landed on the place where the duo is pointing at, he couldn't help but stop his mantra and say those words to himself.
"..."
After all, in that pace is rather a small boat that could barely fit four people; which he noticed just now.
'Damn it! I need to be more observant, no matter what the state of my body and mind should have at any moment.'
And moments later, Midoriya couldn't help but feel frustrated as he thought of that.
Thankfully, he realized that mistake. After all, it should've been given by now that he should always be observant no matter how much exhausted and wounded he am.
... or so he thought to himself once again.
"Wait, wait, wait! To make this clear, you two sail that big ocean right there using just THAT boat?!"
Asked Midoriya as soon as he got out of his shock and mumbling in a quite worked up tone.
"Of course! Shishishishi~"
Luffy answered instantly, as if expecting such a question to be asked.
"Though, don't worry, once we got a chance to, we will get a boat that is much larger, durable, stronger, and more comfortable than that!"
Luffy then added after he saw the questioning look that Midoriya was giving him.
"Whoah! Hold your tongue right there. What do you mean, WE!?"
That was the only response that Midoriya could think of as he finished digesting the words that just left Luffy's mouth.
"Yep, that's right! WE! As in, you and me! Shishishishishi!"
Although Luffy was initially confused as to why the teen in front of him wanted him to hold his own tongue, he chose to ignore that and just answered his question.
"No, no, no! Not a single chance of that happening! Not to mention how we would survive using that boat, I don't even know where we are right now!!"
'And that is exactly the main reason why I am still here after all, after all, it is better to wait as long as possible for other people that is much knowledgeable to guide me out of this place than venture it out on my own.'
Yelled out Midoriya before he continued his rant inside of his mind.
Unaware of the chaos that is going on inside of his head, Coby held up his hands and said.
"Umm, are you really sure you don't know where we are right now?"
Hearing that, instead of answering him, Midoriya just stared at him like an idiot.
For one, he sees no reason as to why it is necessary to raise his hand for such a question and for two, there is no way that he would say that he is lost if he isn't.
So yeah, in the eyes of the lost young hero, Coby, the previous cabin boy of an ugly piggy pirate, is quite a bit of an airhead.
"Yes, I really have no idea where we are right, so could the two of you please tell me where this island is, and how far it is from Japan?"
Still, no matter how much of an airheads the two in front of him should be, they should be at least knowledgeable to know where they are if they dare to sail the ocean with such a small boat.
Though, after hearing his question, he received the same look that he is unknowingly giving to the two of them.
"Are you an idiot?"
And when a new silence once again surrounded them, Luffy suddenly pointed at Midoriya and asked the question that is at the back of the young hero's head.
"Wh-what?! What do you mean I'm an idiot, aren't you two the idiots?! I mean look at this vast ocean and look at your BOAT!! Because even though I'm lost, I know that sailing that ocean with just that boat is dangerous!"
And once again, within just an hour, Midoriya once again stuttered because of the response that he got from the teen in front of him.
