Bab 286: Chapter 286: The Not-So-Secret Secret

After lunch, Albert found a moment to visit the Dark Magic Defense office once again. He sought Professor Smith's advice on the issues he had encountered while practicing the Disillusionment Charm. The professor explained with a smile why the spell had failed.

However, to Albert's eyes, the smile on Professor Smith's face and the explanations he gave seemed rather insincere.

Albert didn't pay much attention to it though. After Professor Smith's explanation, he successfully increased the capacity of a teacup using the Disillusionment Charm. He bid farewell and left, leaving Katrina in a state of bewilderment.

"Don't compare yourself to Albert; his talent is even better than your sister's," Professor Smith felt that something was a bit off but tried to console Katrina.

"If you're bad at comforting people, just don't do it!" Katrina felt even more frustrated. She realized she had been left far behind by Albert in terms of progress.

But there was nothing she could do. When faced with someone who was both hardworking and exceptionally talented, it was indeed quite baffling.

In fact, Katrina had once asked Isabelle about Albert. Isabelle's response was: Albert is Albert, you are you, and I am me. There's no need for comparisons.

Honestly, Katrina greatly admired Isabelle's calm demeanor. Isabelle always appeared composed, as if nothing could disturb her tranquility.

After feeling down for a while, Katrina continued to bury herself in her spellbook. Professor Smith did have a knack for teaching, and she could sense a noticeable improvement in her spellcasting.

After leaving the Dark Magic Defense office, Albert headed straight to the library on the fifth floor. Standing at the entrance, he easily spotted his roommates working on their homework, and they had saved him a spot.

After greeting everyone, Albert began writing the letters he intended to send today. Some were to his family, some to the Diagon Alley tailor shop, and one to the French wizard Adolphe.

Speaking of which, Albert's relationship with the French wizard was still at the stage of mutual communication. Adolphe hadn't fulfilled his promise from their last meeting to share knowledge about the Two-Faced Mirror.

Albert wasn't surprised at all.

There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Even if you're handed a pie, it might be a heavy iron one that smashes you, or a rock-hard pastry that chips your teeth.

In truth, Albert didn't really mind. With old acquaintances, he would make friends if he could, and if not, that was fine too. There wouldn't be much of a loss either way. He usually approached them with a respectful and sincere tone, silently trying to get something out of these old friends.

In his letter to Adolphe, Albert described the troubles he had encountered while using the Transfiguration spell and inquired about how to use advanced Transfiguration and apply it to magical mirrors.

Adolphe certainly had advanced Transfiguration skills; after all, he created the Two-Faced Mirror.

That's right, Albert hoped to obtain more advanced Transfiguration knowledge from Adolphe. This kind of advanced magical application wasn't taught at Hogwarts. Only a handful of wizards truly mastered these advanced magical techniques.

However, ever since he became aware of advanced magic, Albert had felt a bit frustrated. His skill panel still didn't display skills like "Advanced Patronus Charm." Just like how the Lumos spell didn't unlock any advanced variations after learning its higher-level applications, he wasn't sure if advanced Patronus Charms required prerequisites, such as reaching a certain level of proficiency in the standard Patronus Charm.

Of course, it couldn't be ruled out that advanced Patronus Charms might require a pre-requisite skill, like achieving a certain level of proficiency in the standard Patronus Charm before unlocking the advanced versions.

Albert himself hadn't fully grasped the mechanics of the skill panel and tasks.

"Here's the schedule for the Wizard Cards tournament. I've checked and made sure the timing doesn't clash with other activities," said Li Jordan, handing a piece of parchment to Albert as he was sealing an envelope.

"Thanks for your hard work!" Albert glanced over the parchment, which outlined the tournament schedule, and made a few modifications with his quill before tucking it away.

It's great to have someone help out!

"If you know how hard I've been working, then lend me that essay on the Fire Conjuring Charm," Li Jordan said irritably.

"Sure thing, but I haven't finished it yet." Albert continued to write the letter to the tailor shop, then asked, "Fred, have you and George finished your essay on the Fire Conjuring Charm?"

"We're still working on it," George replied with a smile. "If Li Jordan wants to borrow it once we're done, we don't mind."

"In that case, never mind," Li Jordan shook his head. "Angelina, have you finished yours?"

"Angelina's copy is with me," said Angelina, not bothering to look up.

"What are you doing?" Shannon looked at Albert curiously. She had noticed he had been busy for a while but didn't know what he was writing.

"I'm writing letters. I'll see you later," Albert replied, using a Sticking Charm to seal the envelope. With three sealed letters in hand, he got up to make his way to the owlery.

At this time, there weren't many people in Hogwarts Castle. Students from third year and above were all at Hogsmeade.

Right after he emerged from the secret passage, Filch had already spotted him.

"What are you doing here?" the caretaker glared at Albert with suspicion, as if trying to see through him.

"I'm heading to the owlery to send some letters." Albert took out three sealed envelopes from his robe's pocket and waved them in front of Filch to indicate that he wasn't lying.

"Then go quickly." Filch walked away.

"What's wrong with him?" Albert asked Nearly Headless Nick, who was passing by.

"Peeves threw several dung bombs in the corner on the second floor," Nick kindly informed him. "Filch spent quite some time cleaning up. He's quite upset now."

Nick watched Filch's retreating figure and continued, "It seems Filch suspects that a student is supplying Peeves with dung bombs."

Albert knew the Weasley twins had bought quite a few dung bombs and stink pellets from Zonko's Joke Shop.

What a sad story!

It was about ten minutes later when Albert arrived at the owlery near the West Tower. He had Shira send the letters back home and to the tailor shop in Diagon Alley. Then, he chose a sturdy owl to deliver a letter to Adolphe in France.

Just as he left the owlery, he ran into someone familiar. Isabelle was hurrying over with a package in her hands, seeming rather rushed.

Albert greeted her.

However, Isabelle didn't seem interested in engaging in much conversation. She replied briefly and then hurried off.

"Oh well, might as well pretend I didn't notice," Albert mused to himself as he descended the stairs. He spotted Isabelle with a few friends from his house, heading toward the castle. It was clear they had just returned from Hogsmeade.
