Rhyland inwardly winced. He never wanted for things to turn out this way. But Natasha's hand on his shoulder serves as a stark reminder of a pact he had made to save Emery as well as the promise of the Kaminski's to protect Aubrey and her secret. Now that Emery was in the hands of Rhal's faction, Rhyland believed that it was only a matter of time until the rest of the family's identities were uncovered. In order to prevent this from happening, With the help of the Kaminski's, Rhyland contrived to fake the deaths of Matthias and Aubrey thus keeping their secret hidden. Never did he anticipate for Matthias to actually lose his life in the process.
