As the dark tentacles shot towards Aramin, the man being attacked didn't even move. In fact, neither he, nor the duo seemed to have any reaction to Marcus's attempt at taking Aramin's life.

Well, this wasn't entirely true, because Felicia and Alex did react, but it wasn't one born of concern. Rather, their reactions were attributed to amusement and slight surprise.

Just before the dark tendril could skewer Aramin, tiny portals no wider than the circumference of a  water bottle cap appeared where the tendrils were about to pierce. When each tendril reached the portals, they were sucked in and vanished.

It had to be noted that Marcus was still thoroughly exhausted and it was already a surprise he had the energy to stand up at all. Because of this, his attempt at a surprise attack was easily thwarted due to the measly size of his dark tentacle manifestation.
