Liam's expression went back to his cold appearance but inside he was happy his family was safe. Now he just needed to get to his daughter so that he could reunite his family and protect them.
Once that was accomplished, the perpetrators behind his family's misfortune would regret their choice today.
Marcus was following his parents exchange and was just as happy as his father to know everyone was alright. He was still anxious about the entire situation but his parents were doing a fine job of soothing his worries.
Marcus helped his mother to her feet and the trio immediately set out to find Alicia.
However, moments after the trio left, there were subtle fluctuations in space that occurred at one of the scorch marks left behind by Marcus's father.
A tear was formed in the fabric of reality and a woman was pushed out.
*cough* *cough*
The woman lied on the ground clutching her other arm where her elbow would have been.
"Fuck! Since when did that bitch get together with that man."
The woman who was lobbing curses at Marcus's parents was none other than the same woman who attacked his mother and as a result lost her arm.
She was in pretty bad shape right now and barely maintained her original image. Looking good was difficult when you'd just had your arm severed.
"You knew about this didn't you?"
The woman was facing the tear she had been unceremoniously pushed out of.
To her inquiry, she didn't receive an answer. Although, as the tear started to close she could have sworn she heard a chuckle on the other end.
The woman could only grit her teeth as she slowly got up to walk away. The only good thing about this whole situation was that the man in the tear and the man who took her arm would soon meet. And when they did, she was certain one would die.
On another side of the forest, the trio had arrived back to the rubble they once called home.
Marcus was depressed to see the home he had resided in for 10 years in such a state. The only thing stopping him from sinking too far into his own depression were his parents who each placed an arm on his shoulders to console him.
"Its okay Mars," his mother said. "Home will always be where family resides; never forget this."
After consoling her son, Belladonna walked to the side of the rubble that was once their home. She stopped about fifty feet away and reached out a hand.
As she did, the space around her hand fluctuated and Belladonna motioned her hand to the side as if she was opening a curtain.
The curtain of light soon revealed a small girl who was sitting down with her knees to her chest and her arms crossed over her legs. She looked frightened and exhausted and if anyone else were to witness this, they'd likely want to wrap the girl in a warm blanket and embrace and protect her so she'd never be frightened or alone again.
Liam appeared beside his wife and his heart constricted when he saw his little girl in such a state. He decided to call out to her, along with his wife.
"Alicia?"
"Little Rocket?"
Alicia's head snapped up immediately at the sonorous voice of her mother and the warm-protecting voice of her father.
Alicia ran towards her parents and hugged them.
When she last saw her mother, she was covered in a beautiful white knight's armor similar to her father's. At that time, her expression was cold and calculating and that worried Alicia. Sadly, she didn't get time to ask her mother any questions.
Belladonna had instructed her daughter to hide in the space she used to make Alicia invisible. Her magic allowed her to hide Alicia in plain site so that no one could harm her.
Unfortunately while this did keep her safe, she involuntarily received front row seats to her home being destroyed and her mother being chased away by numerous pursuers.
It was no wonder the girl had started to break down sitting inside the space her mother had hidden her. She had no way of telling how her mother was doing and if she'd come back. The only thing that gave her some form of comfort was the cloak she put around her, signaling that her mother was still alive.
"Are you okay sweetheart?" Belladonna asked.
"Yes ma'am."
"Good. You did a very good job staying quiet sweetie and because of that, mommy was able to take care of things."
Alicia started to feel slightly better that she didn't make herself a complete burden for her mother. If her mom were to have died, she wasn't sure if she could handle what was to come next.
Liam also decided to chime in to uplift his daughter's spirits.
"Well done little rocket. I'm proud of you."
Those words from her father were comforting and brought Alicia solace. As a result, Alicia could no longer hold back the tears she'd been holding in this entire time.
She started sobbing uncontrollably as she ran to her parents and hugged them.
Marcus watched this scene from a close distance. He was happy to have found his sister and joined in on the group hug as well.
The family stayed like that for a few minutes before breaking apart.
"Good, now let's-"
Before Liam could finish his sentence he and his wife's expressions immediately went cold.
Both parents encircled the confused Marcus and Alicia as they scanned the area around them.
Marcus and Alicia didn't know what there parents were on guard for. There wasn't anyone in their immediate vicinity, nor could they hear a thing aside from the flickering of the small flames around them.
"Liam!"
"Yes I know... It's him. He's the only one that could escape my senses."
As Marcus's parents were continuing to speak, he noticed he could only see their lips moving but he couldn't hear a thing.
It was almost as if someone had cut off all sound for him and he was only able to depend on his eyes for information. Following this, he started to feel light headed and ended up not being prepared for what came next.
Belladonna, the one closest to her son noticed her son's abnormal state and at a glance didn't think much of it. That was until she saw smaller specks of purple and black mana around her sons head.
She reacted instantly and used one hand to pull her son away and another reached toward the area the orbs of mana floated in.
'This mana is...'
"Spatial collapse."
That was all Marcus heard from a voice that sounded everywhere at once. It reminded him of the voice who'd spoken to him in his 'vision' when he was with his father. It was vastly less intimidating but it still sent a slight shiver down his spine.
This wasn't important right now though. Marcus hardly registered what happened as his vision went black and a weird sounding explosion sounded behind his head.
The last thing he heard was a high-pitched scream.
"AHHHHHH!"
