Emily Piggot has seen a lot of things. It's unsurprising, really, considering she works in the PRT alongside various capes. She has seen physics kicked aside and thrown to the corner too many times to be surprised by anything anymore. At least that's what she thought.
It was supposed to be a difficult mission. Defeat Nilbog and end this madness. Ignoring the fact that the man had overrun a town with the speed that he did and has been not only holding out but fighting back for over a week, it was rather obvious this wasn't going to be easy. It was painful, tiring, and goddamn terrifying. But she was a soldier, and a damn good one at that.
In the end, she was abandoned. The capes that were supposed to help them broke. They ran and doomed the rest of us. Most of the squad has been killed; only a handful of them remain.
She shouldered her assault rifle, keeping her hands on her teammates wounds to keep pressure on them, while Calvert grabbed the last bit of supplies they had. The others were either looking through the house for extra supplies or keeping watch. She doubted it would matter.
Emily wasn't stupid; they didn't stand a chance. HQ has probably declared them dead, and they weren't going to get any rescue. That didn't stop her.
She looked up to see Calvert handing her some clean bandages. She gave a brief nod and took it, using it to seal her teammates wound.
Suddenly, she heard a gasp. Turning, she saw one of the scouts looking out the window. Getting up, rifle in hand, she took a look outside and grimaced. It was a hoard of monsters, and they were coming right for them.
She immediately opened fire, and those who were able followed.
It didn't matter in the end.
For every one they shot down, two took their place. It was worse to know that even among the ones they killed, the corpses would be taken back to be material for new monsters. It wasn't long before their makeshift shelters were breached.
At that point, they moved. Retreat somewhere else, heal up, then repeat until they reach the barricade. That was the best plan they had, and they were planning to stick with it.
That was until the explosion happened.
A titan. There was nothing else that could be used to describe it. Well, no, there were quite a few: ugly for one, Bio Tinker's wet dream for another.
It stood over the town, unmoving like a statue. Its body is made of crystalline flesh. Its face is covered in a skin-like membrane, hiding it from view like some kind of twisted wedding veil. The buildings around it collapsed, their foundations destroyed by the sudden crater the creature made.
Everything seemed to just stop. Nobody seemed to have expected the titan, and who would? The damn thing appeared from thin air.
It was a tense minute, with both sides not sure what to do. The monsters looked confused, unsure whether to deal with the new threat or continue attacking the old one. Seeing this, she subtly signed up for her squad. They began to move away silently, the monsters not noticing until a minute later.
At this point, they were almost out, less than a mile away from the barricade.
She began to hope.
And the world laughed at her suffering as a sudden monster fell from the roof of a building. It glared at them, the beast being over 2 metres tall and humanoid with green skin and a pig head. A damn orc.
It roared in challenge, charging at them. They quickly responded, only to realise something in horror. They were out of ammo.
Emily decided that if God existed, he would hate her.
They dodged to the side, but considering that most of them were tired and wounded, it wasn't a surprise that some of them got hit. Considering her luck, she wasn't surprised to see that she was among the ones hit and thrown across the street.
She gave another roar, and damn, was it annoyingly loud, and she saw the beast preparing to pounce.
It charged, but was completely off. It crashed into a nearby car and stopped moving.
She stared for a solid second. Did the damn thing knock itself out? Considering the looks her teammates had, she wasn't the only one thinking that.
Deciding not to test this sudden luck, they helped each other up and hobbled away because, goddamn, his legs hurt.
When they were a good chunk away, did they notice the orc getting up and walking away, or, to be exact, walking towards the titan, who had moved slightly, its head tilting to look at a part of the town?
Considering the orc looked like it had been mastered, she assumed that the titan was looking at Nilbog. Or she was projecting. She really hoped it was the former.
Hours later, after having gone through multiple checks, she finally was briefed about what happened and what's going to happen.
The Titan, which is being called Goliath by the PRT, killed Nilbog. Targeted the bastards power source, the tumor like thing in the brain.
She personally thought that was why capes seem stupider that average but she kept that to herself.
After melting Nilbog's nonexistent brain, Goliath had mastered all the Nilbog's creations and had them gather around him, before a black smoke covered and transformed them back into all the people or animals used as material.
They were being sent to hospital, as it seems they are in a coma. Luckily, doctors and Thinkers alike believe that the coma was temporary.
Long story short, Nilbog had his brain melted, and everyone in the town that was transformed by Nilbog was turn back, and seemed to be in a temporary coma.
She needed a damn drink, now if only the doctors agree.
