Bab 7: Chapter Seven

Olivia felt a chill run down her spine as Edward's voice grew louder and more menacing. She knew that he was angry, and she didn't want Marcus to be caught in the middle of their argument.

"Marcus, I think it's best if you go now, it's getting late," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

Marcus looked at her, concern etched on his face. "Are you sure? Don't you need me to stay?"

Olivia shook her head. "No, it's okay. I'll be fine. I just need to have some work to do and I need to be alone for that."

"Is that really the problem? You seem very nervous," Marcus asked.

"No, I am fine. No need to worry," she assured him.

Marcus hesitated for a moment, but then he nodded. "Okay. Just be careful, okay?"

Olivia smiled. "I will. Thank you."

As Marcus left, Olivia turned to face Edward. She could see the anger in his eyes, and she knew that she was in trouble.

"What do you want?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm.

Edward took a step towards her, his eyes blazing with fury. "Why did you leave without informing me? What do you take me for, a total joke?"

"You took so long to return, so I felt it was best for me to leave. Maybe as a werewolf you have no idea that it is wrong to keep a woman waiting," she tried arguing her way out but it was clear that Edward was not having it.

"Was that the reason? I tried to connect with you in order to find out where you were but it felt as though I was being blocked out. Tell me the truth, what happened when I left?"

She moved backwards a little bit, before staring into his eyes. "Nothing happened. The moment you left, I waited there for you, for about nearly an hour but you never showed up, so I decided to leave," she lied.

Edward scoffed, then he took dangerous steps to her, giving her a very deadly look. Unexpectedly for Olivia, he pinned her to the wall, his eyes looking so bloody. "I won't ask you in a calm tone after now, so you had better make this simple for yourself and I. What happened after I had left?"

"I…. I fought with a werewolf," she replied, the fear of being scolded by him affecting her words.

"What!" He exclaimed, after which he demanded a full explanation from her.

He was so furious after she had told him all about her encounter. "I want you to stop meddling in things that you don't understand. You're putting yourself and everyone around you in danger," he warned, different thoughts going on in his mind of who would have dared to attack his mate.

Olivia felt a surge of fear run through her. She had never seen Edward like this before, and she didn't know how to handle it.

"I'm just trying to find out the truth," she said, her voice shaking slightly.

Edward took another step towards her, and Olivia could feel his breath on her face. "The truth is dangerous, Olivia. It's not something that you can just go looking for without consequences. Just think for some seconds of how you would have lost your life, if the wolf that attacked you really wanted to harm you."

Olivia felt a tear roll down her cheek. She didn't know what to do or say. She had never felt so scared in her life.

"Please, Edward," she whispered. "I just want to know what happened to my parents. I need to find their killer."

He sighed in frustration.

"This has nothing to do with you, you have never lost a loved one before, therefore you will never be able to understand the pain I am going through."

Edward's expression softened slightly, and he took a step back. "I understand that, Olivia but you have to be careful. There are things out there that you can't even imagine. Things that could destroy you."

Olivia nodded, wiping away her tears. "I know. It still doesn't mean I can't just sit back and do nothing. I have to try."

Edward sighed. "I know and I am willing to help you but you have to promise me that you'll be careful. Promise me that you won't put yourself in danger."

Olivia nodded. "I promise." This time she was ready to put up with whatever he had to say, in order to be able to go back to the pack house.

As the night wore on, Olivia began to feel tired and restless. She knew that she needed to get some sleep, but she didn't want Edward to remain in her house. Asking him to leave was also going to be a problem for her but she had to muster the courage to.

"Edward," she said, stifling a yawn. "I think it's time for you to go."

Edward looked at her with concern. "Can't I spend the night here? Don't you trust me yet?" he asked. "I don't want to leave you alone, it's not safe for you."

Olivia smiled, touched by his concern. "I'll be fine," she said. "I'm a police officer, I can take care of myself."

Edward wasn't convinced. "I don't like the idea of leaving you alone," he said. "What if you get attacked by the same werewolf?"

Even though she was scared, she couldn't let Edward stay in her place. For all she knew, all the proof of her parent's death was pointing to him.

She persisted but Edward wasn't about to give up. "Please, Olivia," he said. "Let me stay with you tonight. I assure you that I won't trouble you. I just want to make sure you're safe."

Olivia hesitated. She didn't want to keep pushing, as she realized that he was way too stubborn. "Okay," she said finally. "You can stay, but just for tonight."

Edward smiled, relieved. "Thank you," he said. "I promise I won't cause any trouble."

Olivia nodded, leading him to the guest room. She gave him a spare blanket and pillow. "Goodnight, Edward," she said, closing the door behind her.

As all these were taking place, a pair of eyes was watching the both of them from a dark corner.

The sun was setting over the forest as the Lord wolf, Kael, made his way back to the pack's den. He had been out scouting for prey all day and was exhausted. As he approached the den, he could hear the sound of his mother's voice echoing through the trees.

"Kael, get over here!" she barked.

Alpha Kael sighed and made his way over to where his mother, the pack's beta female, was waiting for him. She was a tall, imposing figure with piercing blue eyes and a sharp tongue.

"What is it, mother?" Alpha Kael asked, trying to keep the exhaustion out of his voice.

"You know what it is," she snapped. "You failed to eliminate the mate of that werewolf Edward. Do you have any idea what that means?"

Kael knew exactly what it meant. If the werewolf Edward mated, he would have an heir, and Kael's heir would never be able to rule the pack. It was a thought that had been weighing heavily on his mind ever since he had failed in his mission.

"I'm sorry, mother," Kael said, bowing his head in shame.

"Sorry isn't good enough," his mother spat. "You were given a task, and you failed. Do you know what the punishment for failure is?"

Kael knew all too well what the punishment for failure was. It was death. His mother had made it clear from the moment he was born that she expected nothing but the best from him, and failure was not an option.

"I'll do better next time. I let her go tonight but I assure that the next time I lay hold of her, I'll return her dead body to you to feast on," Kael promised, hoping to appease his mother.

"There won't be a next time," his mother said, her voice cold and unforgiving. "You've proven yourself to be weak and unworthy of leading this pack. I'll have to find someone else to take your place."

Kael felt a lump form in his throat. He had always known that his mother was ruthless, but he had never thought she would turn on him like this.

"But mother, please," Kael pleaded. "Give me another chance. I won't fail you again."

His mother shook her head. "It's too late for that, Kael. You had your chance, and you blew it. Now, you'll have to face the consequences of your actions."

Kael felt a sense of dread wash over him as his mother turned and walked away. He knew that he was in deep trouble and that there was no way out of it. He had failed his mother, his pack, and himself, and now he would have to pay the price. The only way for him to ease her anger was by killing Edward's mate as soon as he could.

As Kael watched his mother disappear into the trees, he knew he had to think of a way to get to Olivia before his mother could put her words into action.

Alpha Kael sat on his throne in the pack, his eyes closed as he focused on his mind-link with his beta, Dragon. He needed to find out where Edward's mate lived, and he knew Dragon was the best person for the job.

"Dragon," Kael, his voice echoing in Dragon's mind. "I need you to find out where Olivia lives."

Dragon didn't hesitate. "Consider it done, Alpha," he replied, his thoughts clear and focused.

Kael could feel Dragon's mind reaching out, searching for any information on Olivia's whereabouts. He could sense the beta's excitement as he found a lead, and Kael couldn't help but smile.

But then Dragon's thoughts turned serious. "Alpha, to get more information about Olivia, I'll need to search through most of her things. It might take some time."

Kael nodded, even though Dragon couldn't see him. "Do what you have to do, but be careful. We don't want to get caught."

Dragon's mind-link went silent for a few moments, and Kael could sense the beta's concentration as he searched through Olivia's belongings. Finally, Dragon spoke again.

"Alpha, I've found something. Edward is with Olivia. They're together."

Kael's heart sank. He had hoped that Olivia was alone, but it seemed that Edward was already one step ahead of him. "Thank you, Dragon. That's all I needed to know."

Dragon began to withdraw his mind from the link, but just as he was about to disconnect, Kael heard a sudden gasp. He could sense Dragon's fear and panic, and then the link went dead.

Kael's eyes snapped open, and he stood up from his throne. He knew something was wrong. He rushed out of his pack and down the forest, his mind racing with possibilities.

As he turned the corner, he saw Dragon being held by the neck by Edward, his feet dangling off the ground. Kael's heart raced as he realized that Dragon had been caught.

"What are you doing here?" Edward growled, his eyes flashing with anger.

Kael stepped forward, trying to diffuse the situation. "We were just looking for something. We mean no harm."

Edward's grip on Dragon tightened, and Kael could see the fear in the beta's eyes. "You're lying," Edward snarled. "You're here to hurt her."

Kael knew he had to act fast. He reached out with his mind, trying to calm Edward down. "We're not here to hurt anyone. We just came to see you. With our powers we were able to track you down. All we are here for is to make peace with you."

"Peace?" Edward asked with utter surprise.

"Yes, we will be going for a battle soon and we wonder if you will be willing to join."

Edward hesitated for a moment, and Kael could sense his anger beginning to subside. Finally, he released Dragon and stepped back. "What battle?"

"It will be explained to you later."

"Fine," Edward growled. "I Hope that is all, if you try to harm anything that belongs to me. I'll kill you both."

Kael nodded, his heart racing with relief. He knew he had to be careful from now on. He couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
