Bab 20: Tides Of Conflict: Clash With The Beast Pirates - Part 4

Sai vs. Laila

Despite her words of disbelief, Laila quickly recomposed herself and, with a snarl, lunged forward once more. Her movements were swifter, her strikes more deadly. She was like a vengeful snake, coiling and striking with lethal precision. Yet, Sai was no longer the prey. His awareness of her movements had heightened, his body moving instinctively to counter and evade her attacks.

"You are a fool to think you can match me!" Laila spat, her voice dripping with venom as she launched forward again. "Your newfound skill won't save you!"

Yet, Sai did not respond. His silence echoed louder than any retort. His focus was solely on her. The surrounding noise of their comrades' fights faded into the background. There was only him, Laila, and the rhythm of their battle.

With each passing second, Sai's mastery over Observation Haki grew stronger. He could sense Laila's intent, her mounting frustration. Her strikes were met with a firm parry or a swift dodge. Sai matched her, and it was clear from her snarling expression that Laila was also realizing this.

Frustration flared in Laila's eyes as her attacks continued to miss their mark. "Enough!" she roared, her body coiling tighter, ready to unleash a devastating attack. Yet, Sai remained undeterred. His stance was solid, his gaze unwavering. It was clear he was preparing for something, a final move.

"Armament Haki..." Sai murmured under his breath. His fists began to radiate with dark energy, enveloped in a thick layer of Haki. His eyes met Laila's, a determined look on his face. "Hasshoken: Seismic Impact!"

With that, Sai launched himself at Laila, his fists trailing dark energy. He struck, his punch landing squarely on Laila's midsection. The impact sent a shockwave rippling out from the point of contact, powerful enough to knock Laila off her feet and send her crashing into the ship's mast.

Laila gasped in surprise, and the wind knocked her out of her as she collided with the mast. Sliding down, she hit the deck hard, groaning in pain. The crowd fell silent; the spectacle of the fight had drawn everyone's attention. Laila, the formidable Boa Boa no Mi user, had been defeated.

Slowly, Sai lowered his fist, his heavy breathing the only sound breaking the silence. The traces of armament Haki faded away, leaving him looking weary yet determined. His gaze was unwavering as he looked towards Laila's fallen form, a clear message in his eyes. He would protect his crew, no matter what it took. This was his resolve, the way of the warrior.

Soma vs. Half of the Beast pirates

Soma managed to hold his own throughout the chaotic battle, keeping the Beast Pirates at bay. However, with each passing moment, the number of enemies seemed to multiply. Soma was well aware that he couldn't keep this up forever. His arms were growing heavy, and his body was riddled with injuries. Yet, he stood his ground, his will unwavering.

"Soma!" Mavis' voice carried through the tumult, concern evident in her tone. He gave her a weak smile, a silent reassurance, even as his strength waned.

The Beast Pirates sensed his weakening state, their predatory smiles widening. Taking advantage of his momentary lapse, they attacked in unison. Soma tried to dodge, but a swift slash caught his side, and he cried out as fresh pain erupted.

Despite the crippling pain, Soma managed to stagger back, trying to distance himself and the enemy. But the Beast Pirates were relentless, charging forward with renewed enthusiasm.

"Soma, hold on!" Mavis yelled, attempting to intervene, but was held back by a horde of Pirates. At this moment, it was up to Soma alone.

He knew he couldn't keep up his defense much longer. His body screamed in pain, but he needed to end this for himself and his crew. The power of his Devil Fruit, Food Food no Mi, pulsed within him, urging him to push beyond his limits.

Summoning his remaining strength, he slammed his spoon onto the deck. "Food Food no Mi," he began, his voice hoarse yet filled with determination. "Infernal Feast!"

The wood beneath him pulsed and warped as Soma poured his will. It softened, morphing and expanding into a giant multi-layered cake. But it wasn't the soft, sweet dessert it appeared to be.

The air filled with a thick aroma of spices and heat, hinting at its concealed danger. The cake layers separated, revealing their deadly filling - a hot, boiling curry mass. Its scalding heat radiated outwards, filling the deck and causing the Beast Pirates to recoil in surprise and fear.

"You madman!" One of the pirates yelled, trying to back away, but it was too late. The cake exploded, releasing the scorching curry in a massive wave that washed over the lower deck. The pirates screamed as they were overwhelmed by the burning spice and searing heat.

Soma used his spoon at the center to create a shield of hardened sugar around him, protecting himself from the impact. He could feel the intense heat, even through his shield. His body felt heavy, and his vision was blurry. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the deck, the ladle slipping from his fingers.

He could hear the cries and shouts of the Beast Pirates slowly fading away, replaced by the roaring waves and creaking ship. He had done it. He had held them off, giving his crew the chance they needed.

As his consciousness began to slip away, he felt a pair of arms wrap around him, lifting him gently. Mavis' voice echoed in his ears, filled with relief and concern. "Soma, you did well," she said, her voice soft and shaky.

With a slight smile on his lips, Soma closed his eyes, allowing the darkness to engulf him. His last thought was that he had protected his crew and his family. He was content.

Despite the injuries and overwhelming odds, Soma had managed to secure a hard-fought victory. His tenacity, culinary creativity, and relentless will had ensured the safety of his crew, at least for now. His unconscious form was a testament to his determination.

Gram vs. Half of the Beast pirates

Despite her attacks' strength and ferocity, Gram was gradually overwhelmed. The Beast Pirates were relentless, and their numbers seemed to multiply every time she glanced down. Her wings were growing heavier with each beat, and her body was tired from the exertion of the continuous fight. And yet, she couldn't afford to back down. Not now, not when her crew needed her.

Looking down at the horde below, she knew she had to end this quickly. She couldn't afford to drag this fight out any longer. And so, she soared higher, gathering her strength for one final attack.

"Script of the Sky Serpent!" Gram declared, her voice echoing over the roiling sea. A giant papyrus appeared before her, her pen poised over it. As she started to write, the sky around her changed, swirling winds and dark clouds rapidly forming. The Pirates on the deck looked up in awe and fear as Gram's command began to take form.

However, something felt different this time. As she wrote, a black glow enveloped her pen, seeping into her inscribed words. It was Haki, a manifestation of her will, something she had never consciously used.

The intensity of the black glow made her gasp. She had heard of Haki but had never experienced it firsthand. It was powerful and overwhelming but also dangerous. Her body wasn't accustomed to it, and using it without training could lead to severe injuries.

Yet, at that moment, Gram didn't care. Her crew was at stake, their lives hanging by a thread. There was no room for hesitation, no room for fear.

With a determined gaze, she completed her command. The sky roared, and a massive sky serpent, composed of roaring winds and flashing lightning, descended upon the ship. The Beast Pirates screamed in terror, trying to flee, but it was too late.

The serpent crashed onto the deck, the impact causing a massive shockwave. The Beast Pirates have swept away; the deafening roar of the wind and sea drowns out their yells. The ship rocked violently, battered by the relentless storm.

As the serpent faded away, so did the storm, leaving a scene of destruction in its wake. The Beast Pirates were scattered, and their numbers were significantly reduced.

Gram, meanwhile, felt a searing pain coursing through her. The use of Haki had taken a toll on her, and she was falling. Her wings wouldn't respond, and her vision blurred. As she descended, her clothes, already worn and torn from the battle, were shredded to bits by the harsh wind, leaving her almost entirely bare.

"Mavis!" she managed to call out before crashing onto the deck, her body wracked with pain. The world spun around her, her consciousness slipping away.

Without hemoment's, Mavis rushed over to Gram, using her coat to cover her fallen comrade. She whispered words of comfort, promising that she would take care of everything now.

Gram had done her part, her final attack a testament to her willpower and bravery. She had held the Beast Pirates back, giving her crew the much-needed advantage. Despite the severe injuries and exhaustion, she had fulfilled her duty as a member of the Silver Wave Pirates. Even as she lost consciousness, a sense of fulfillment washed over her. She had protected her crew and her family. She was content.
