No amount of preparation could have prepared me for the scene that beheld me.
/"Mom?/" I weakly call out
My voice alerts my mother of my presence.
/"Haley, what are you doing here?/" The older woman whispers as she hurriedly urges me out of the hospital room
I feel my eyes begin to tear up as she closes the door behind her, effectively cutting off my visual of my mom.
/"W-What's wrong with her?/" I ask my mother as fear consumes my body
The image of my mom appearing deathly pale on the hospital bed flashes in my mind.
Her eyes were shut, but the consistent beep of the heart rate monitor told me that she was still alive.
She looked weak, as if she has not eaten in weeks.
Due to her being so pale her under eye bags are deeper than ever.
Her brunette hair tied up in a matted, messy bun.
/"I-Is she dying?/" I am unable to stop myself from asking
