It took Heaven all night to list down the names of all her suspects, it was nearly dawn when she had fallen asleep. That was why she was a little groggy to be woken up just a couple of hours before calling it a day, only to deal with the most pressing matter she currently had at hand.
"All the conditions are written in it. Read it if you must. Take your time." Heaven glanced up at the man sitting across from her in the mansion's garden.
Dominic, her husband, was already in his suit early in the morning. He had his leg resting over the other, drinking a cup of tea leisurely while reading something on his tablet.
'Man, what a beautiful sight early in the morning,' she thought, not bothering to look around her to appreciate the lush green and blooming flowers in the garden. Her focus was solely on this man with divine beauty, who was apparently asking for a divorce.
Heaven frowned before gazing down at the documents in front of her. 'They could have at least offered me coffee to function,' she thought. She mildly shook her head, trying to wake herself up.
The bags underneath her eyes were dark, and her hair was still all over the place. Heaven yawned indifferently as she picked up the documents, planning to pretend to read the divorce papers while she thought of a plan to delay it.
Little did she know, the man across from her was observing her from the corner of his eyes.
When Heaven yawned, his jaw slightly tightened and there was a thick vein that was pulsing on his head. They were discussing their divorce and yet, she was acting indifferent, like she didn't really care.
'What did I expect from her?' he gave out a silent self-mocking laugh. Then he shifted his focus back to his tablet. 'It's not like I didn't know she wanted this.'
Yes, they were married for the sake of the child she was carrying, but after giving birth, Heaven should care a little for their child. Dominic already accepted his relationship with his wife would only grow worse. Not that he had hoped for them to act as husband and wife since there was no love between them from the get-go. However, he was hopeful that in the span of the past five years, she would at least show a little love for their child. After all, this child was also hers.
'Even when she's about to lose custody, she still doesn't show the slightest bit of concern,' he thought. He told himself to ignore her until she was finished reading, but Dominic still found himself observing Heaven. 'This is good. Her attitude only proves I am doing the right thing for Basti.'
'What in the world?' she thought. While Dominic's resolution for this divorce strengthened, Heaven felt dizzy at the words she was reading. 'Are these human words?'
All the letters before her just flew over her head, jumbling in the air, making them unreadable to her. Her brain was not prepared to read such long, detailed documents so early in the morning.
'But more than this,' she raised the documents to cover her face from the man's prying eyes. 'What in the world is wrong with me?'
The current Heaven was not this lethargic in her previous life. Even with just a thirty-minute nap, she could get by for an entire day without worry. Reading long documents was also not an alien task to do. The ton amount of paperwork she worked on in the past was way beyond a normal person's limit.
So why did she feel so sleepy and tired?
'Was it because this body isn't used to it?' she wondered, reviewing the original Heaven's memory. 'Err… she's sleep deprived and is used to it.'
The original Heaven used to be an actress, after all. Having little sleep but then still being required to memorize her lines and deliver them properly was part of her line of work. In other words, the lack of sleep was not a problem for the original Heaven.
Even though the original Heaven disappeared from the limelight five years ago, she still had problems with sleeping. Still, Heaven might have stayed indoors, but at least, she had the energy to function even if she lacked sleep.
'Does this have something to do with the phenomenon that struck me?' she wondered. 'Since the soul is new to this body, I am required to adapt to this body? That's not impossible — to be fair, that makes sense. I can't believe I have to think spiritually instead of a realistic answer that is backed by science.'
Heaven yawned once again, trying to refocus her attention on the divorce papers. She narrowed her eyes, doing her best to skim through it just to get a little bit of understanding of this divorce. Not that she planned to divorce him, but she still needed to find loopholes to delay it. Better yet, stop it.
SLAM!
Dominic arched a brow when the cutleries and cups on the table clanged. He slowly turned his head to her, only to see Heaven's hand on top of the divorce papers.
'Here she goes,' he thought, assuming she reached a critical part of the condition that made her stop reading altogether. 'I put it in the first few clauses so we can address it early.'
However, instead of hearing some harsh remarks or serious questions from her, the words that came out of her mouth were something else.
"Hey…" she breathed out, her voice sounding woozy while she clasped the edge of the table while trying to keep her eyes open. "I'm going to faint."
"Huh?" Dominic furrowed his brows, assessing her pale complexion. His reflexes tingled upon noticing how her lips turned purple before her eyes rolled, falling to her side.
Dominic tossed the tablet away, listening to his instinct as he leaped toward her to catch her before her body could land on the grass. His eyes were wide open and his heart was racing, looking at her unconscious figure with shaking eyes.
"Hey, what are you pulling off right now?" he tugged her, his voice filled with worry. Dominic shook her once more, trying to wake her up, but she didn't react. Her body was laying on his arms like a withered leaf. "Heaven!"
"Do not worry about the young madam, master. She probably overexerted herself and so she suffered from fatigue. She simply needed total rest to recover. If possible, she should stay away from stress and rest from any activities. Having a healthy diet is also recommended."
Dominic Zhu looked at Heaven, remembering the doctor's words this morning. He sat beside her on the hospital bed, looking at her profile. She still had the same pale complexion when he brought her here after she fainted when they were talking about their divorce in the garden.
'Fatigue?' he silently sneered. 'Just what did you do to get overfatigue?'
From his knowledge, Heaven hasn't even touched the broom for five years. There were too many servants in the house to do all the chores for her. He never even expected her to do any of that. He just expected her to take care of their son, which was obviously something she couldn't and wouldn't do.
All this woman did for the past five years was tend to herself. She only needed to take care of herself, but she could not even do such a simple task. The fact that she was now lying on a hospital bed due to fatigue irritated him to no end. Dominic felt bitterness swelled up in his chest.
'You already won. You are already getting back the freedom you think I stole.' His face crumpled with bitterness and inexplicable anger. 'Then why are you still like this?'
Was it better to see her jumping for joy after signing their divorce paper? To be truthfully honest, Dominic didn't know. It would be better if they just ended things quickly. The past had damaged them in so many ways. In that case, they could start healing from the bad decisions they had made in the past.
As Dominic was keeping his eyes fixed on his wife, unbeknownst to him, Heaven was already fully awake.
'Damn. I don't even need to open my eyes to know if someone is glaring daggers at me,' she thought. She kept her eyes closed the entire time, turning her head to the other side to avoid her husband's dark gaze. She could imagine the dark shroud enveloping him while glaring at her 'unconscious' body.
'I think my theory was right. I just woke up from this body yesterday.' Heaven diverted her thoughts and stopped noticing her husband's deadly glares. 'Thinking about it, I probably strained myself. Well, at least, all I need is total rest away from stress and a healthy diet!' she smiled inwardly.
The doctor's reassurance put her heart at ease. She was afraid Heaven was suffering from a deadly disease. She had died once, dying twice was a total bad luck.
'Does that mean he will be postponing the divorce?' She wondered, clenching her teeth to remind herself she was currently playing unconscious. 'I guess I'm lucky in this life hehe — damn. Just why can't he stop glaring at me?' She silently grumbled.
******
Dominic stayed for about an hour before leaving the hospital. That meant she had to play unconscious for that period of time. He waited for her to regain consciousness, but was told by the doctor her body was probably recharging. Thus, he didn't idle for long as he went home to settle some matters in the household.
"Master, should we tell the young master about the young madam?" Dominic's assistant asked from the front passenger seat as soon as his boss got in the back seat, glancing at the rearview mirror.
"There's no need to worry him," Dominic replied in a tired voice while he unbuttoned his blazer suit leisurely.
The assistant nodded in understanding and asked once more, "Should I move your schedule to later today?" He already knew his boss had cleared his schedule. He was the kind of boss to make room for important meetings.
"No need," Dominic replied after a moment of hesitation and shook his head. "Let's head home. I need to know what this woman had been doing for her to faint like that."
"Yes, sir."
With that being said, the black sedan that was parked near the entrance of the hospital sped away.
If there was one person in the world that Heaven hated the most, it was Dominic. That was no secret and almost everyone knew that. She blamed him for everything and the mere sight of him turned her stomach. So Dominic did the only solution he could think of. He made sure that he avoided Heaven at all costs.
In other words, it had been three months since Dominic and Heaven saw each other despite living under the same roof. Her hobby of locking herself in the room and his busy schedule helped avoid any disaster between them.
He would occasionally ask the people in the house about her well-being. But all he got every time was the same:
[The Madam had been in her room.]
Those were the reports he would hear, and he never doubted that because he knew Heaven. If only she could, she wouldn't even touch her food, knowing it came out of his pocket.
Thinking about his relationship with his wife suddenly brought light to almost everything.
'It's not that I don't understand why she hated me that much,' he thought, staring at the window of the backseat. 'Actually, I fully understand.'
Dominic was the one who insisted on this marriage. He wanted to take responsibility as he had always been. Thus, even when there were no feelings between him and Heaven, he married her.
He tried, though.
He did his best to be the best father and a good husband. He didn't need love to be a husband, after all. All he had to do was make her happy, but obviously, no matter how hard he tried, his entire existence was the root of her misery.
'If we made a different decision back then, would we be in better places?' He wondered. Thinking back to those times that he was at peace. Then he recalled how Heaven fainted this morning.
Dominic's decision to correct all the things that had been wrong strengthened his resolve. Opposite to what Heaven had expected. It might hurt his son, but this was better, knowing she would hurt him more if she stayed. This was also for her own good. Staying had been torture for her; perhaps, if he let her go, she would be able to live a lot happier.
What he did not know, Heaven was also cooking up plans on how to pick up the pieces of the broken vow that the old Heaven had done. While he was determined to let her go and correct his decision, the new Heaven would do anything so that she could stay.
