Bab 8: Act 2, Scenes 4-7
(Verona streets. Nighttime. Police sirens wail in the distance. Romeo, dressed in black and hiding in the shadows, hears the sirens and looks around nervously. Juliet appears.)
JULIET: My love, why do you look so pale and fearful? What troubles you?
ROMEO: It is the police, my sweet. They hunt me for Tybalt's death.
JULIET: Oh, Romeo, what have you done? You must flee this place and find a way to clear your name.
ROMEO: But how can I leave you, my love? I cannot bear to be parted from you.
JULIET: I will come with you, Romeo. We will face this challenge together.
(Scene 5)
(A hotel room. Romeo and Juliet are packing their bags.)
JULIET: Romeo, we must leave now. The police are closing in.
ROMEO: I know, my love. But where shall we go? How can we escape the law?
JULIET: There is a place I know of, far from here. A small island in the Pacific. We can start anew there, Romeo. A new life, free from this burden.
ROMEO: Yes, my love. We will go there, and we will start again. But how will we get there? We have no money, no passports.
JULIET: Do not worry, my love. I have arranged everything. I have taken care of everything.
(Scene 6)
(An airport. Romeo and Juliet are disguised, wearing hats and sunglasses. Juliet hands the passports to the immigration officer.)
IMMIGRATION OFFICER: (looking at the passports) Mr. and Mrs. Smith? And where are you going?
JULIET: To a much-needed vacation, sir.
IMMIGRATION OFFICER: (looking at them suspiciously) Very well. Enjoy your stay.
(Romeo and Juliet exit the scene.)
(Scene 7)
(A hotel room in the island. Romeo and Juliet are sitting on the balcony, looking at the sea.)
ROMEO: My love, we have escaped. We are free.
JULIET: Yes, my love. But at what cost? We have left our families, our friends, our homes. We are alone in a foreign land.
ROMEO: But we have each other, Juliet. That is all that matters.
JULIET: Yes, my love. You are right. We have each other. And as long as we have that, we can face anything.
(They embrace.)
