Bab 141: Memories of Time

We did it. Kirigakure fell just an hour ago, and we're scouring the place. And by scouring, I mean essentially occupying and half-looting the place. Essential civilian infrastructure is almost intact, while anyone grabbing anything ninja-related (scrolls, tools, seal ink, and such) is free to keep half the loot, while turning in the rest to their respective village.

Essentially, we're taking anything that could be used for defense and using it to replenish our own supplies. Well, Suna and Kumo's supplies; we haven't really used those things much, and Pakura has already acquired a not insignificant amount of loot.

"Can you repeat that?" I feel like my ears are playing tricks on me because what I heard was none of the expected outcomes.

"Which part?" Pakura asked through the den den mushi call. "The part where the Mizukage vanished into thin air or the part where Ameyuri decided to go for a walk?"

"Let's start with the Mizukage part," it's always better to start with the easy part.

"Well," Pakura nodded and the snail mimicked her, "after finishing the interrogations, we found out that Mei Terumi seems to have disappeared from the village at some point. Initially, we thought we had her, but what Temari found in the Mizukage's office was just a clone to divert attention. There were also some bodies and a strange thing, looks like a man but I don't think it's human."

Hmm, did Black Zetsu try to intervene, or did Obito try to make things easier?

Kirigakure disappearing was basically their final revenge for Rin.

"So... we don't know her whereabouts?" I asked. "Or where she might be going?"

"No. Also, I went to her residence, and I can see she took many things from there before disappearing, so we can be pretty sure she has fled. The Raikage is currently searching for her with his people while the others finish occupying the village."

Should I try to catch her using Mantra?

But I didn't feel anything going against the direction, that's quite...

Wait, we've been closing in with great care, how did she escape without being detected?

I know she's a Kage-level power, but with the number of people with Byakugan we have, she shouldn't be able to slip away. Unless...

Some kind of reverse summoning technique for emergencies?

It wouldn't be surprising if she had something like that; I doubt I'm the first one to think of something similar to the seal I made for my people. A hidden seal on a deserted island could be a perfectly valid escape plan.

But from what Pakura is telling me, she didn't even take her closest people with her during the escape. Unusual, without a doubt.

It's as if she suddenly decided to throw everything to the wind and leave to start anew, washing her hands of the matter.

...

Nah, that doesn't seem very consistent with Terumi's character; there has to be something else.

"I see, let the Raikage handle the search," I told Pakura as I switched to what interested me most. "What were you saying about Ameyuri?"

"Haku called me to tell me that Ameyuri was a bit restless and went out for a walk; it's just..."

"Yes?" The conversation is turning in a somewhat familiar way.

"Well, it seems she came back with some memories from her walk."

"... Memories?" I repeated.

That doesn't sound so bad, but I had a feeling.

"That's what she called them," Pakura sounds as bewildered as I am, thankfully.

"And what kind of 'memories' are we talking about?" I wanted details; we're being too vague with the details.

"Well..." Pakura blinked, and the den den mushi accurately mimicked her expression, "it's possible that Ameyuri took a stroll near Takigakure and accidentally entered the village..."

Heavens.

"...someone recognized her and demanded Fu back to her face with some not-so-subtle threats..."

Oh, no.

"...and she decided to tear off and take her precious tree after leaving the village completely dry using her ability. I don't think it will be long before they change the name of the place; there are no more waterfalls to see from today..."

So, Ameyuri took the tree that produces Hero's Water...

It's not as bad as I expected, and it seems she didn't even kill anyone!

I consider it a good outcome.

"Wait, you said memories in plural," I noticed the detail. "Did she bring something else?"

"About that... it seems we'll have more people in the village."

A big question mark would materialize over my head if I were in a cartoon; who is she talking about?

Resigned, I had to end the call with Pakura and make one to Haku to get the full story.

"Did she bring triplets to the village?" I exclaimed with no small surprise.

"Yes, Lord Enel," Haku replied after giving me the summarized explanation. "Apparently, during her return, Miss Ameyuri came across a caravan destroyed by bandits, and when she passed by it, she heard the babies crying. The weather changed, and it started raining, so she couldn't resist bringing them, or they would have gotten sick... or worse."

"How old are they?" I wanted to know. "Do we know their names?"

They should have a tag sewn into their clothes or something, right?

"According to Mariko-san, it seems they are just two years old," Haku replied after a brief pause, probably asking Mariko not far away. "Apparently, there are two boys and a girl; the boys' names are Ri and Ma, while the girl seems to be named Shirayuki."

Wow, there's no favoritism at all in naming them...

No, wait, that's not the point.

When they cried, the weather changed? And they were found in a caravan...

Are they from Yota's clan?

If I remember correctly, he was one of Orochimaru's first attempts at Edo Tensei, if not the first of all. His family used to sell weather to make a living while traveling; Yota was born with the best talent for it but also with a fragile body that led to his premature death.

He was also the only character, besides Lee, who developed some interest in Sakura.

It seems like I'm going to be able to open a Weatheria-style weather department!

Should I make a circular rainbow on Skypiea to make them feel at home?

Random question

For those who have read immortal cultivation novels, if you could read a cultivation novel in your language, whether it be Spanish or English, would you still expect the characters' names to be in Chinese out of habit?

I mean, reading something like: ...and then Steve reached the golden core...

Does that sound weird?

Meanwhile, something like: ...and then Jiang Chen reached the golden core...

Sounds more normal to me, although of course, it's a bit shocking for those who haven't read any and are just starting with the first one.

Opinions?
