When Alicia, who seldom gave out compliments, praised Louis, his face lit up with a smile. Hand in hand, they climbed into the car, Louis beaming. But as their guard was about to close the door, Haley hopped in, plopping down next to Alicia. Louis' smile vanished.
He gave Haley an annoyed look. He had hoped for a private moment with Alicia, and now Haley was butting in.
Staying cool, Louis told Haley, "You can ride in the car behind us."
Haley shrugged, "Why does it matter where I sit? I need to ask Alicia something."
She tapped Alicia's arm, asking, "Alicia, how does your spray work? Why is that old woman itching so much?"
Alicia looked out the window at Bella, who was scratching her face like crazy on the ground, and said, "It's made of tree sap and peach fuzz. It won't kill, but it's super annoying."
After the scary run-in in California, she had made this spray for self-defense. She hadn't expected to use it today.
