Henry's face reddened with anger as he fired back, "How could you say something so hurtful? I've always treated Maddie like she's my own daughter."

"You should treat others the way you want to be treated. If you can't follow that rule, why should I?" Louis left these stinging words hanging in the room as he turned and confidently walked away, his footsteps echoing his determination.

Madelyn's eyes lingered on his tall, upright figure until it vanished behind the door, never wavering. Slowly, her empty eyes started to fill with tears.

Seeing his precious daughter crying, Gregg's heart ached. He quickly grabbed a tissue and tried to comfort her, "Don't cry, honey. A guy that cold-hearted isn't worth your tears."
