In the security post, Jin sat on a chair, gazing at the blue sky and glaring sunlight as his head and body leaned against the backrest.
The slow breathing and the dull ache that stung his body gradually stabilized and eased.
"Break time is over," he muttered to himself. He picked up his Mosberg from the table and stood up, walking towards the exit door.
With a click, the iron door swung open, and his narrowed pupil looked ahead to see a pair of high-quality double doors in the distance.
…
With the lightness of a feather, Jin strode through the open double doors with caution.
Jin was clad in the Dark Knight's vest, which enhanced his defense and had a countering effect. His heightened level, enhanced stats, and regeneration skill would make any man feel overwhelmed with a sense of safety.
But Jin didn't let his guard down. He maintained a tense posture, aiming his barrel forward, and scanning the area with tiger-like eyes.
As the CCTV footage had shown, the lights in the apartment lobby were on, and none of them were destroyed or turned off.
Not even dead bodies was found on the exquisite silk carpet. The lobby was narrow but spacious enough for ten men to walk side by side.
Three massive chandeliers hung from the high ceiling, which was so tall that even Jin, with his towering height of 195cm, could do a double jump.
On each side, there were four elevators, two on the right and two on the left, with the path leading to the reception desk before branching off.
The tall decorative vases, which should have been filled with water to hold the huge ficus trees, were now gone, replaced by a mess on the floor.
There were numerous puddles of water, scattered leaves, and broken branches, as if someone had purposefully destroyed the decorative plants.
Jin sniffed the air, but instead of the usual mixture of fishy and pungent iron smells, he was greeted with fresh and relaxing air, as if he were in an untouched forest.
Despite his confusion, he advanced towards the reception desk, which was a blind spot on the CCTV.
He arrived at the desk and saw it was split in two, but the telephone was untouched. He slowly slid behind the desk, only to find it clean and empty.
There were no ripped clothes, flesh, or blood on the floor.
"Huh? Did all of them skip their work?" Jin muttered as he bent down to find the record of tenant entries and exits.
To his surprise, the book was missing, and there wasn't even a handy talkie usually used to coordinate with the rest of the staff.
"Did they already evacuate?" Jin paused for a moment and looked around once again. The surrounding area was in a mess, but there were no casualties.
It was impossible for those Vampiric Bats to aimlessly attack human property instead of searching for blood.
The scenes on the first and second floors were contradictory and had no relation to each other.
For a moment, Jin's brain was lost in deep thought, but he soon shook his head and tried to regain focus. "Forget it. First, I need to eliminate the visible threat."
Leaving the reception desk behind, Jin headed towards the left path that led to the emergency stairs designed for staff use only.
The dark stairs, lacking in light or windows, caused his barrel to slowly bend upward. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the stairs as he advanced.
His slit amber eyes, which had now grown accustomed to seeing in the darkness, could feel and sense the rough and faint-looking steps before him.
Just as he stepped onto the landing, his body suddenly shivered, and all of his hair stood on end. His instincts told him that many pairs of eyes were watching him.
His face now looked dead serious. This feeling was different from being watched by those Blood Slaves in the club. They didn't give him this life-threatening feeling.
"They are different," he concluded, his vigilance increasing, especially towards the pitch-black unknown stair ceiling.
When he almost reached the second floor, puddles of blood began drenching the steps, the fishy and iron smell lingering in his nose.
"It's here." He put his entire focus on the surrounding area, his muscles exerting strength and ready to burst at any moment.
As he kept advancing upward, a small whisper escaped his mouth.
[Skill: Gunslinger Activated!]
[A temporary 10% increase in firearm accuracy and reload speed has been applied for 20 seconds!]
[Any critical hits dealt during the skill's duration will deal an additional 75% damage!]
A glimmer of light seeped through his body, and he felt his grip on his shotgun tighten as his slit pupils showed a mysterious glint.
Before him stood a thick iron door that led to the second floor, but it now had many rough and indescribable structures protruding from its sides.
As Jin observed the condition of the iron door, his ears perked up at the sound of munching, as if someone were eating or chewing something.
He suddenly took a step back, and his back hit the handrails with a loud clack!
Something dropped before him, and when he saw what it was, his pupils shrank in horror.
It was a human hand!
The hand was already cut open, leaving only a rough appearance for him to identify. If it wasn't for the ring attached to the unrecognizable fingers, he would not have identified it at all.
He stepped forward to inspect the hand before slowly moving it aside to see if there was anything else.
"The possibility of these people surviving seems greatly reduced," he spoke in a grave tone.
His fellow security guard was nowhere to be seen, and based on the ring, the hand should belong to one of the tenants.
What annoyed and bothered him was not the death of the tenant, but the one who killed them.
"Those Vampiric Bats, I killed them before they could digest their food. But not all the places had the same similar situation.
"What happens if those bats were having a feast without anyone disturbing it?"
Jin spoke inwardly. He had a rough assumption, just like the gangs he killed. They could even level up and even drop a magic crystal.
Then what about those bats? If those bats were leveling up, not to mention at lvl 0, they were already scary. How could those weak and rich tenants survive?
Just as Jin wanted to open the door handle, the ominous and threatening feeling from before tightened and now rang as if alerting him several times.
He turned around without hesitation and pulled the trigger. A temporary image of gigantic fangs, as big as his entire arm, flashed before him.
BAM!
After the gunshot, there was a screeching and squishing sound followed by a loud thud. The sparks from the gun helped his slit pupils catch a glimpse of the monstrous bat's wings.
However, what made him sure this creature was different was the absence of a killing notification. This meant…
ROAR!
Following this was a strange lion's roar from above, followed by a gust of wind tightening around his body.
Click.
Jin's swift hands, thanks to his skill, immediately unloaded the shotgun shell from the magazine tubes, replacing it with a brand new one from his ammo pouch on his waist.
His mind and muscles raced against time as he finished reloading in just a couple of seconds. A flash of wings suddenly blasted his face from above.
Jin raised his head and hands without hesitation, aiming upward where several rough-looking shadows were diving straight toward him.
BAM!
Another shot was fired, but this time it was precisely aimed at the incoming diving creature.
Jin's slit amber pupils shrank in shock upon seeing the clear view of the creature. It had black fur and eyes red as shining gems.
Even though its wings were closed as it dove toward him, they were five times bigger than normal bats. Coupled with those fangs the size of human arms, its body was huge, almost 2 meters long!
ROAR!
"That's a fucking giant golden-crowned flying fox!" Jin was beyond shocked.
Although those bats were herbivorous and ate fruits, seeing similar creatures that were eating humans was scarier than horror films!
Suddenly, a loud shriek followed, and Jin knew he had no chance facing them all at once. Without hesitation, he turned around and kicked the iron door with all his might.
CRASH!
With his strength stat almost reaching 20, the thick-looking iron door was fragile before him as it was smashed backward several meters away.
As expected, the pair of wandering red eyes noticed Jin's arrival after he opened the door. Without hesitation, he ran towards the light shining through the big glass windows.
"GRR!" The loud footsteps and screeches of the gigantic bats followed closely behind. But Jin, who had been trained as a security guard and had absorbed many agility attributes, was superior to them.
Suddenly, as Jin sprinted towards the light, he heard the sound of a door clicking open. Then, he saw a human face.
"Young man Jin! As I guessed, you brought reinforcements!" An elderly man with a hoarse and feeble voice, and a trembling body, struggled to stand even with the support of his walking stick.
But he had a big smile on his face as he looked at Jin.
