Bab 6: Training Saber

"...lan... Alan... Halan!"

"Huh?" My eyelids shot open, seeing Master Kona Ti at eye level. I looked around, and some of the meditation pads of the other initiates were floating in the air with them still on them.

In the next second, I felt a slight click, and all the meditation pads fell to the floor. The other children were fine, as the mats were soft and wide enough to catch them.

I was no different and fell on my butt, almost falling backwards before Master Kona Ti supported me. I looked at my sweaty hands and noticed my whole body sweating, which slightly dampened my Jedi robes.

"W-What happened?" I asked as the visions of the battle were as clear as day.

'That was me in the future. I fought and killed all of those Siths, together with those other women. Who were they, and why were we fighting in the forest?'

'That woman who I held so close... I cried with her in my embrace... who was she, and why was I so attached to her, even though the Jedi forbade attachments?' I thought to myself, trying to come up with questions but no answers.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Master Kona Ti spoke. "Unknowingly, you have just done two other forms of meditation: "Moving Meditation," and "Floating Meditation."

"You'll learn more about these when you become a padawan, but you entered into very deep meditation, which caused such a reaction. You're full of surprises; initiate Halan."

I gave a stiff chuckle. "Yeah... I apologize."

Honestly, while I said I wanted to appear as a prodigy, I didn't expect to do prodigy-level things, especially this soon.

I sighed and thought. 'Well, it's not like I'm an OP character. It wasn't done intentionally, and I highly doubt I can do it again so soon.'

"Hmm... Well, I think this is enough meditation for now. Your third class will begin shortly; please follow up behind me." Master Kona Ti said, as all the other initiates lined up behind her.

Taking a moment to gather myself, I was about to get up before I noticed the pretty Saru, who was looking at me with sparkling eyes. "You were so cool, Halan! I'm the most talented student in the class, but you just put me to shame. How did you use the force so well?"

I laughed awkwardly. "Uh, I'm not really sure since I wasn't aware I was doing it. If I had to guess, it's probably like an invisible flow, like water, and there was some sort of connection—to the force, I guess."

She nodded and rubbed her chin. "Hmm~ when I tried to use the force in the first class, it felt something like that but different at the same time. We should help each other learn; that way we can become powerful Jedi and help people!"

I just gave a small nod. "Sure, I don't mind. If we learn together, we can compare ourselves and point out our flaws."

Saru fell into line behind Rishal; she chuckled, and said, "Yup, and we can even be rivals too."

'Eh? With how finicky the Jedi are, I doubt they'll be okay with something like this.' I thought about it before deciding to accept it. "Sure, I guess this makes us rivals."

Saru chuckled to herself, and Master Kona Ti led us to our next class.

....

After nearly twenty minutes of walking through the Jedi Temple, we entered a large, circular room. Upon entering, we saw a tall human man with gray hair and a beard. On his face were bushy eyebrows over his green eyes. He had a straight nose and thin lips.

He wore a brown coat with brown armor underneath. His pants were tan, and on his feet were brown leather boots.

Seeing us enter the room, he laughed. "Hello again, younglings. I see you're all eager to participate in my class. Oh, another one is with you."

Under the old Jedi's gaze, I felt very uneasy. I can see it wasn't done intentionally, but because of his nature and aura. It helped a bit when Master Kona Ti mentioned,

"Knight Cad Joneken, can you be mindful of the little ones? Why don't you introduce yourself after calming your aura?"

Cad Joneken, the old Jedi, realized what had happened and apologized. "Hoho, I'm sorry, younglings. Anyway, since initiate Halan is new, I'll introduce myself. I'm Knight Cad Joneken, a lightsaber instructor chosen by the battlemaster, Jun Seros.

"Luckily, initiate Halan, your fellow peers were unable to participate in this class until yesterday, as they still had much to learn from their other two classes. Now, normally you would be left out of class until you caught up with your other classes. However, Grand Master Zym has allowed you to participate in class moving forward."

I nodded hesitantly, trying to understand why Grand Master Zym would show me favor. That question was soon answered, as Master Kona Ti deduced. "It seems Grand Master Zym was well aware of your events; initiate Halan."

'Ah, I see.' I thought it made sense since I'm living under his roof—how could he not know?

"Anyway, with that taken care of, I shall quickly review what we discussed yesterday and start today's lesson." Knight Cad Joneken said before pressing a button on his left arm.

A second after the button was pressed, a hidden wall appeared and was lifted to reveal a display rack with twenty devices small enough to fit into small children's hands.

With a wave of his hand, the devices magically floated from the display rack and into the air. They hovered with a small spin as they followed Knight Cad Joneken's hand motions.

All of the other initiates were amazed by the force display; even I was no different after seeing it for the nth time.

A moment later, the initiates brought their hands together with their palms facing upwards. Seeing this, I did the same and watched as Cad Joneken waved his hands, using the force to place the small devices into our tiny hands.

Looking at the device in the palms of my hands, I thought. 'These look just like lightsabers, but I doubt they'll give real ones to children. These are probably like training lightsabers. Whatever the case, I'm still excited to try them out.'

Looking around, it seems like all the training lightsabers were similar in appearance but either smaller or bigger to suit the children's size and maturity.

"Alright, since you all have your training sabers in your hands, I shall review what we learned yesterday before today's lesson. Yesterday, we discussed how imperative the third pillar is: Self-Discipline. Without it, how could we expect ourselves to wield a lightsaber without accidentally cutting ourselves or each other's limbs?"

A grimace spread across the faces of the children as they imagined the scene with their creative minds. I remembered the vision I had earlier, seeing the white-masked woman's arm sliced off with a lightsaber. I shuddered at the thought as I felt my blood turn cold.

Knight Cad Joneken chuckled wryly. "Yes, it's not a pleasant thought at all. Unfortunately, this is one of the many risks we take when handling a lightsaber. That is why Self-Discipline is very important, just as much as the other two pillars. Believe me when I say that the Jedi Code and the three pillars are not to be taken lightly, as they are what make a Jedi."

Everyone immediately nodded their heads, realizing that this class was not a joke and something that should be taken very seriously.

Knight Cad Joneken tried to ease the gloomy atmosphere. "However, do not worry. In this class, we will deal with training sabers and not lightsabers. In your knowledge class, you'll learn how to disassemble and reassemble a training saber. Now, training sabers are much less dangerous than an actual lightsaber, but it's still a weapon nonetheless.

"Although it cannot cause serious injury, such as slicing off an arm, it still should be treated with caution and respect, just like an actual lightsaber. At most, you can find yourselves stunning your nerve endings or burning your flesh or fur. If you aren't careful, it may be both.

"Alright, since you realized the dangers of the training saber, we will now focus on how to use it. Place both of your hands on your hand grip, with one hand above the other, relaxedly."

Following Knight Cad Joneken's instructions, all the initiates, including myself, placed both hands on the training saber's handgrip. We then waited for Knight Cad Joneken's further instructions.

"Before I tell you to activate the training saber, can anyone tell me the benefits of wielding a lightsaber?" Knight Cad Joneken asked, looking around the room for volunteers.

A small alien with a T-shaped head, similar to a hammerhead shark, raised its hand to speak. When called on, it spoke in a language I couldn't understand; everyone else, however, seemed to understand what it was saying.

"Hmm, combat is one of its uses, but it is more than just a weapon for violence. Would anyone else like to answer the question?" Knight Cad Joneken asked.

I felt a wave of air brush against my cheek when I saw Saru's hand raised. When she was called on, she answered. "In my opinion, lightsabers have four important uses besides combat.

"First, we can use it as a shield to protect ourselves and others. Whether you're deflecting blaster fire, lightsabers, or anything else that can hurt someone else.

"Secondly, it can be used as a light source. When we're in a dark cave and have no other tools, we can activate our lightsaber to light our way in the dark.

"The third is cutting through solid objects, primarily metal. Sometimes, when a wall is blocking our way or enclosing people who need to be free, using the lightsaber to cut through the object is the most viable option.

"Lastly, I think using it to evaporate liquids or cold objects is another great use. Let's say we're in an icy cave, and a wall of thin ice blocks our way. We can simply hover our lightsaber near the wall, and it'll melt in no time. Of course, using the force is also an option, but this is still another use."

Knight Cad Joneken smiled, satisfied by Saru's answer. "Those were four great answers; initiate Saru. Now that we understand the dangers and uses of a lightsaber, let's activate our training sabers and practice the first lightsaber combat technique, Shii-cho."

Thank you for reading!

.

Commenting about what you thought helps with motivation and the story's direction. Without everyone's support, I feel like I'm just typing away to myself.

.

Anyway, this was shorter than the previous chapter but still important. I could've made this longer but decided not to.

I wanted to dedicate a full chapter to the first of the seven lightsaber techniques, Shii-Cho.
