Bab 45: Chapter 43 Vicious orange eyes.

Two days went by and the preparations for the journey back to the city of beasts was done. Sydney sat at the mouth of the cave and looked up to the sky lost in a whirlwind of thoughts that even the dreamy night sky didn't fascinate her anymore.

She wondered what the others were doing, it had been many days but they hadn't found her yet. She was starting to loose hope both in them and herself. With literally no sense of directions or compass with her, she would he wandering around aimlessly if not worse off going further away rendering her rescue more impossible.

But according to her memory of the city of beasts and where she was now, it was most likely to her east, north east or south east. It was a gamble but she was ready to take it anyway. There were also colonies belonging to the strays that surrounded the city of beasts that she had to watch out for. It was already vexing just thinking about it.

The soft puds on the loins feet trotted slowly and there was a sudden plop to her left side. The eldest had come to sit by her side.

In the past two days, they had somehow come to a common understanding but the brothers hadn't decided on whether to follow along with the female but seeing how determined she was to leave, they grew conflicted.

"I'll be leaving early tomorrow morning before sunrise." Sydney muttered softly. "Will you guys he coming with me?" she asked fearfully. If it was back on earth, she wouldn't fear crossing from the north pole to the south and she wouldn't be pleading with anyone to keep her company but this place was different and she didn't have to courage. Regardless of how strong or formidable she was, she was a lady that desired to be protected despite not daring to say so to anyone.

The next morning came and at the crack of dawn, Sydney woke up with extremely low spirits. The brothers hadn't given her a positive answer to her request and she knew, she was on her own now. Though the room was still dark, having adjusted to the darkness over the past days enabled her to see a lot better.

When she looked over to where her baggage had been packed, there wasn't a single thing! Sydney's heart dropped and she felt around but couldn't find a single thing. Looking where both brothers slept, she didn't see a single patch of white fur which gave her a very bad feeling.

Scurrying out of bed, she ran and exited the cave. She had felt that the brothers didn't want her to leave but she didn't expect them to take away her baggage. Did they intend to throw it so she wouldn't find it and not go home?! Sje asked them to along with her but they refused and didn't agree till the very end!!! How dare they take her things away?! Weren't female's wishes absolute in the beast world!!!!?

Once she was out of the cave with all ridiculous thoughts and curses raining her mind, she halted in her steps and her eyes widened. The youngest brother had her baggage hanging on his back standing and watching the sun rise.

They had decided to wait for her and go with her.

Seeing them early up even before her with all her things, Sydney was surely happy that her bitterself disappeared immediately. "You have decided to come along?!" she asked disbelief washing her entire being.

The eldest picked the fox fur he had hunted for her and brought it over to her.

[Let's leave!!] he grunted feeling extremely grumpy and his eyes glassy. He could hear his brother's stupid laughter from behind teasing him to no ends.

Sydney was extremely happy with receiving this piece of fur which was both smooth and light. The fur had a combination of both white and black and it had been handled extremely carefully.

"Let's set off soon! The sun tends to get a little too hot during the day." She grabbed her small bag of herbs and tied it around her waist firmly. She knew sauntering in this humagous forest could be dangerous and she had been playing with all sorts of herbs that could help cover up her scent. She had made a number of them after coming up with the right combination.

As she had learnt that once one infused organics in their day to day life, there was a likelihood of one's body taking on the scent of whatever natural herb they kept with themselves. With her scent concealing herbs all together, she was able to sneak up on both brothers catching them off guard and she had confirmed that her scent had been successfully sealed off. Of course the brothers and her had an allergic reaction on the first test out but latter grew immune to it.

She had gone an extra mile to clip her beautiful red hair a bit to sport a more masculine look.

"Remember, I'm a male doctor who has no beast side!!" she emphasised this point once again. With her scent concealed, she needed an identity they could use as a cover up incase they ran into strays. Under all circumstances, she didn't want to run into them.

Running off the whole six morning hours, they rested when the sun was literally grilling into her to the point that she was sizzling. Her hip bones were terribly sore from the long ride. After ensuring that the place was secure, youngest ran off to inspect their path further. Sydney who wasn't hungry took this chance to take a nap. Under the heavy canopy covering the forest bed, it was cooler and she soon dozed off.

When she woke up again, it was in the afternoon and both brothers had also rested enough.

They proceeded with their journey and only took their other stop in the early night. The brothers stamina left Sydney aghast. Not even normal lions would run this long without resting... anyway, she was in a world where 'normal' was out of their dictionary.

For days now, she had been feasting on fruits and she was short on energy. She had tried to make a fire but her attempts had been futile and she cursed all television shows for making it seem like it was the easiest to make fire by hitting stones together and rubbing twigs.

She could only seat and watch as the brothers tore at their prey. She was down on iron and needed intake. "Can I have some?" she asked her eyes fixed on the juicy looking meat. What could possibly go wrong...if they could eat it, then she too can!

The youngest tore the tenderest spot of meat and carried it between his teeth and brought some over to her. Sydney gingerly took the meat and observed it.

It was bloody!

She frowned and felt her stomach protesting vehemently but she stubbornly took a bite off the meat. She almost lost her canines!

"What the heck!!!" she cursed as she felt her teeth! "Do you think I won't eat you?!" she growled angrily.

[What's the matter?] youngest asked with concern but all she heard was a soft rumble from his chest. She did understand but wasn't up for embarrassing herself.

"It's nothing.." she laughed the matter off but was cursing the meat to death. Spending a good one hour to chew down the meat and also force it down her digestive duct, she finally rested and blocked her ears. She was thoroughly embarrassed. She could tell from the snickers of both brothers that they enjoyed seeing her misery and had obviously laughed at her. Who spent an hour eating meat!?

Then she had to go down to explaining herself but these two still didn't understand. She huffed and puffed and decided to go off to sleep. It was no use arguing nor explaining to beasts.

The next morning came and they proceeded with their journey which went about being uneventful during the mornings but their luck ran out at midday. Based on the speed at which they had been travelling, she was sure they had covered quite a huge distance without any mishaps except for running into some wild animals which didn't dare come close to them.

However, they ran into a group of strays that were camped up a head. They had to stop and hide under Sydney's instructions. The group had around eight members while they were only three of them. Clearly outnumbered to the tee.

"We can't proceed!" she whispered and both brothers looked at her comfied as to why not?!

Sydney didn't want to have an enemy at her back. They had to wait for this group to move and then follow after them. But this also gave her alot of hope as it meant that the city of beats was close.

The three retreated stealthily. Sydney sat down and sighed troubled. She took out her water bag made from animal skin and attached with tree sup and took a mouthful. "We should also rest and move when they do." she said and the brothers looked at her lost. "Those are called stray beasts. They are brutal and kill without reason since they lack attachments. Mostly, they treat females very badly and even kill and hurt them. That's why, I emphasised the fact that you have to claim that I'm a male who treats others wounds. As long as my natural scent doesn't give out on me, I'll be safe. But if they learn that I'm a female, I'm certain this will be the last time you guys will see me. So you have to keep this secret, am I clear?!" she questioned to which both brothers nodded seriously their protection instincts kicking in.

It seems this matter was more crucial than they had initially thought. Luckily, they finally agreed to come along and learn what was beyond their territory.

Unknown to the trio, a pair of vicious orange eyes were watching and everything they had discussed had been clearly heard.
