"This is harder than I thought." I sighed as I sat on a rock near the edge of the cliff. I was staring down at the ground, the way it dwindled, and everything got smaller, and less significant. Normally, this would make things better for me, but not now.

"Why?" I cried out as I put my face in my hands. "WHY!?" The desperation in my voice confused me. Many people would think this was a good thing if it happened to them, but not me. Especially not this way. If it had been someone else, someone whose future I hadn't been trying to protect for over a decade, then I might give it a chance. 

"DAMN YOU, FATE!" I screamed to the open sky. "WHY HER? WHY RUIN HER LIFE BY GIVING HER ME?"

Sighing, I flopped myself back down on the rock that had been my bench.
