"M-Mother...?"
Samael uttered a word as his eyes were glued onto the lifeless body with a gaping hole in its chest, his eyes alongside his father's anguished cries acted as an affirmation that the lifeless body was none other than his mother, Diana.
Despite the gruesome sight of his dead loving mother, he was unblinking at the scene.
Even though Lucius was experiencing a violent outburst at Diana's corpse while Norman tries to stop him from doing anything reckless, it doesn't elicit any response from Samael. His eyes were blank and expressionless. Even as Lily covered her mouth in grief, no tears rolled down Samael's face.
"Lucius! Listen to me! You can't go out there or you'll be killed too!"
"M-Mother! Mother!!"
The devastating sight evoke many emotions from the others, but Samael was completely emotionless. All sound in the background that tries to penetrate his ears started to become muffled, and his entire world collapsed and shrouded in darkness.
'Why did you let this happen to us? We are your devoted servants...'
'Mother has never done anything bad to people, she was raised and groomed like a saint...'
'And father... he's the most religious person I have ever known, so why...?'
Many thoughts are spiraling inside Samael's head as he can't comprehend why this is happening to them. Not only his family, the entirety of the city is religious, but they were slaughtered as if they are heathens straying from God's path.
It shouldn't happen to them, it should've happened to these evil people that commit sins casually.
'God won't save you tonight!'
The laughter of the sinners was ringing like a death cradle that never stops, and the darkness that is creeping closer seems to amplify their laughter, creating an echoing effect that scarred Samael's heart.
Just then the sound was replaced by another lecture from his father that he remembered clearly.
It was the three Divine Axioms that are engraved in his mind.
'God always protects, God always guides, and God always chooses the side of good! That's the three Divine Axioms, never lose hope. God's light will always find a way to shine through the darkness'
But as remembered that time, the picture in his mind was replaced by his father's breakdown.
Samael can see the rare tears of his father falling down to the ground as he seeks an answer from God inside the prayer room, an event that started all of his doubts. 'I- I can't see your light anymore...'
Meanwhile, the light mage alongside his forces started laughing like maniacs.
Witnessing the despair and sorrow that are being felt by Fedele and those that followed him to the battle was akin to a glass of delicious wine, it satiates their evil thirst. "Don't worry, Fedele as I'm kind. I'll carve the way for you to meet with God and reunite with your wife soon enough" the light mage said with a nasty grin.
In response to this, the last strand of sanity in Fedele's eyes disappeared.
Swoosh!!
Fedele's body started glowing with a brilliant light, harnessing every last bit of mana inside his body in a berserk state. Slowly, a diamond-shaped white gem materializes above him that contains immense energy that lights up the entire place.
Upon seeing this, many of the mages shuddered as they all know what that white gem is.
It was the sign of a mage reaching the Wizard realm, an Elemental Gem that boosts the spells used by mages in the Wizard realm by more than five times. A source of power that makes these kinds of mages triumph over other mages below them.
Gritting his teeth, Fedele summoned a spear made of light before the gem was engraved on it.
Shing!
As if the brilliant spear of light is not strong enough, it surged with more power when the gem was engraved on it. It glowed even brighter which spark a spiral pattern around the handle and the head. Despite the immense power he projected, blood could be seen dripping from his mouth as he strained himself to his limit.
"Let me handle Fedele, kill the others," the light mage said with a commanding tone.
Hailman nodded his head with an evil laugh, "Knock yourself out" he replied.
Responding to Fedele who is preparing for a fight at the sight of his dead spouse, the light mage crosses his arms in front of his chest before two scimitars made entirely out of light manifest in his hands. Like Fedele, a white gem emitting power appears from nothingness and splits into two parts before they inscribed themselves onto the two scimitars.
With a mighty roar that reverberated in the surroundings, Fedele charges forward.
Sparkles of light can be seen left on his footprints as he charged bringing everything he has with him. The light mage also responds the same, his body propels forward and heads straight to Fedele without any hint of backing down.
Boom!
Both of them clash and create a light shockwave that brought a powerful pushing force.
Norman, Lucius, and Lily ducked down in reflex when they saw the light shockwave was about to reach them, but Samael didn't move as his body got hit by the shockwave and got flung back, hitting the tree behind him.
As the two clashes, the other mages from both sides also charge forward as a great battle occurs.
Even though both sides started strong, Fedele's side fall quickly as they were mostly exhausted of mana already and is unable to keep up with the mages from the other side. Many kinds of spells were flying everywhere, destroying the surroundings in their wake.
Watching from the side, it turns out there's not only one Wizard realm mage from the enemy's side.
Slaughtering at the center was a woman clad in a dark outfit and a black mask, her dark hair tied into a ponytail dancing in the wind as she slaughtered the opposing mages with sizzling dark energy around her body.
Despite being surrounded by more than a dozen mages, she was dominating the fight completely.
Out of nowhere, her body stopped moving which allowed the mages to jump onto her with different spells in their hands. But that of course was a false hope as she chanted whisperingly.
"Thorn of Darkness..."
Splat!
The woman's body suddenly burst with eight thorns of darkness that impaled the mages.
In a quick motion, the situation where she was surrounded turns into a situation suited for killing. Each one of the mages that leaped onto her was killed, their bodies were riddled with holes from the blackthorns.
Meanwhile, Fedele and the light mage fought fiercely, none was backing down.
Both of them exchanged blow after blow with their weapons made of light. Not only that, but their bodies also emanate a sizzling light that can be recognized as an Elemental Aura. Another feature only Wizard realm mages have access to.
An Elemental Aura increases their physical prowess and makes them inhumanly strong.
Despite the exhaustion and the wounds that keeps on bleeding, Fedele wasn't slowing down thanks to the anger and adrenaline inside his veins. Instead of weakening, he becomes stronger and stronger with each passing second.
Clang!
When the light mage tried to block Fedele's attack, he was shocked at the power that came from it.
It was quite powerful that it manage to knock him back a couple of steps and puts him off balance, Fedele wanted to continue his attack but got hit by a strong beam of light right on his stomach and send him crashing away hundreds of meters away.
The light mage manages to land a hit, trying to create some space between them.
But before he can catch his breath his eyes widened sensing Fedele is already right by him.
Glancing to his right he saw Fedele's eyes glowing white brightly, he disregard the blood drizzling down the corner of his mouth and wears a grim expression with no sign of the usual pliant expression that he had. "You will pay for your sins with blood! Light Mirrage!"
Shiing!
Upon the chant of the spell, two clones of light were created on either side of the light mage.
Each of them raised the spear in their hands high above their heads before swinging them down right at the light mage. Not having any time to dodge, the light mage gritted his teeth and forced himself to raise his scimitars to block the descending spears.
Clang!
Alongside the three times force brought by Fedele, the ground beneath the light mage cracked.
The light mage winced at the force of the attacks reverberating through his trembling arms. Blood rushes out of his throat as he gasps in surprise and murmurs to himself, 'He's strong... I guess I underestimated a broken man's strength. But it's not going to be a problem'
Just then, the light mage glanced at the woman on the side, asking for help.
Feeling the light mage's gaze her body pulsed with more dark energy. In a flash, her eyes sparks with a flash fiercely before she vanished from where she was standing and reappeared behind Fedele's back. She was as light as a feather and before Fedele knows it, she was already behind him.
Slash!
Out of nowhere, Fedele feels a sharp sting from behind his knees.
Glancing over his shoulders he saw the woman with black hair that is certainly a dark mage manage to cut him with her corrosive daggers. Each of the Light Mirrages that he created was reduced to particles of light, destroyed by the woman.
But the pain was not affecting him greatly in his current situation, he was completely numb.
Responding to this, Fedele slammed his spear onto the ground.
"Pit of Light!"
Bam!
Sensing something coming from the ground, the woman leaped away alongside the light mage.
But as it turns out, that was the best possible move for them to make. The ground around Fedele suddenly burst with long sharp light spikes right after they jumped away. The light mage and the woman then landed a distance away, facing Fedele with a triumphant smile.
Even though he's trying to keep standing, it's clear that he was having some difficulty.
The cut from the woman was not a normal cut but one that is imbued with the dark element, it inflicts a pain-amplifying effect on the wounds behind his knees. Fedele even needs to lean on his spear to try and keep standing.
With his index finger, the light mage gestured to the area around him.
"It's over, Fedele. Take a look..."
Upon hearing this, Fedele looks around and finds that the mages that were fighting with him a moment ago were completely annihilated. Their severed bodies decorate the rough ground, and he was the only one left standing amongst them all.
A few of the opposing forces were killed, the rest are still smiling and grinning at him mockingly.
Leaning his head on the spear of light while he fixed his rigid breaths, Fedele takes in the situation as many regrets filled his mind. But then as he raises his head, he saw a glimpse of Samael and the others at the far tree lines on the side.
Fedele can't hide his smile as he looks back at the light mage with newfound hope.
"Yes, Cyrus. Our battle has come to an end, and my fate has been decided by the Lord. But don't forget that evil will not go unpunished, your sins will bring more darkness to this world, and you'll soon find out what that means" Fedele warned ominously.
Casting an ironic smirk, he added, "As for when your time has come, it will be far more jarring than mine. Heaven itself will watch as the repercussions strike you from the back" Fedele then pointed at the sky with a satisfied smile. "God and I will observe the evil you created consume you and the Grand Preist from on high"
