Gustav looked disappointed with David's answer and the boy felt sorry. I'm very sorry that I'm not special! There's nothing wrong with being ordinary, you know!

"I don't know," Meiden spoke up slowly without raising his eyes at him, "how much of the work done on this property was your contribution, but I think the job was done better than well."

David blinked his eyelids. Was that a compliment? He had no idea what he could answer, but the Norwegian didn't wait for his words at all.

"This is great," he announced enthusiastically after tasting the dish on his plate. "I've never eaten it, but it's very good. What do you call it?"

"Lecho," he reminded. "It's Hungarian cuisine, only slightly reworked. It's very popular with us because it's easy and quick to prepare."

"Really good. Pass on the compliments to your mother."

Oops! I guess he'll have to do that because if his mother ever runs into Meiden... Well, he'll figure it out somehow.
