Bab 73: Patience in the Wind: The Doctor who is Called a Witch
As the clouds soared toward the Castle, they continued to ascend higher and higher as they approached the mountain. Eventually, they reached a point where they were only a few meters above the mountain, right where the castle was situated.
It was challenging for Luffy to see their path amidst the heavy snowfall and their rapid speed of approximately 60 kmph. However, after flying for about thirty minutes, the group's vision cleared, revealing the castle atop the mountain. Luffy couldn't help but acknowledge the castle's exquisite beauty.
As they approached 100 feet near the castle, Luffy commanded the clouds to slow down. This allowed them to appreciate the picturesque sight of the snow-covered castle. The group then navigated the cloud towards the castle door and eventually landed inside.
Luffy was the first to jump up and brush the snow off his body and straw hat. Then, he turned to face the cloud and made a request, "Bring me Nami," he said. In response, Sanji carefully lifted Nami from the cloud and handed her over to Luffy. With Nami safely in his arms, Sanji and Nojiko then jumped from the cloud and stood beside Luffy.
After they had all descended, a cloud began to rise into the sky, where it would patiently wait for Luffy's next call. "Where can we find this doctor or witch?" Nojiko asked as she looked around. "Well, the front door is open. Perhaps we should check inside," suggested Sanji. This caused Nojiko and Sanji to look towards the castle's front door, where they immediately noticed that it was open.
The four of them, accompanied by Nami, proceeded to walk toward the door in hopes of locating the doctor within the castle. However, the instant they stepped inside, their eyes widened in astonishment. The entire first floor of the castle was blanketed in snow, with every nook and cranny of the rooms and stairs adorned with the icy flakes. It seemed as though the door had been left open for days, rather than just today.
"Who left the door open if this is what it's going to be?" Sanji questioned, about to approach the door in order to close it. However, Luffy swiftly intervened, halting Sanji's movement. "No, wait, don't close!" Luffy exclaimed urgently, preventing Sanji from taking another step. "Just look up there," he added, redirecting their attention towards the door. Sanji and Nojiko followed his gaze and were met with the sight of a nest housing tiny birds positioned above the door.
"They probably left the door open so the birds could make a home," Nojiko proposed, eliciting a nod from Luffy. He redirected his focus back to the interior of the castle. "HEEELLOOOO!" Luffy bellowed, attempting to attract the attention of someone within. "Is there anyone here?" he shouted once more, patiently anticipating a response.
He waited for approximately a minute in hopes of receiving a response, but unfortunately, no one replied. "I thought Dalton said the doctor resides in this castle," Sanji remarked while exploring the ground floor. "Could we be in the wrong castle?" Nojiko questioned. "No, this is the only castle on the island. Let's investigate," Luffy declared before ascending the stairs, cradling Nami in a bridal carry.
While making their way through room after room, it became evident that this castle was indeed inhabited, as certain rooms showed signs of frequent use while a few doors remained locked. Eventually, the group stumbled upon a room featuring an unoccupied bed and shelves adorned with books.
"Let's temporarily place Nami in this room and figure out our next move," Luffy suggested, prompting his crew members to nod in agreement. Walking towards the bed, Luffy was joined by Nojiko who carefully removed the purple blanket from it. They gently laid Nami on the bed, ensuring she was comfortable, before Nojiko tenderly covered her with the blanket.
"Where is this doctor?" Sanji exclaimed in frustration. "Relax," Luffy reassured as he made his way towards the fireplace in the room. "Dalton mentioned that the doctor frequently visits the town to tend to patients. Perhaps she is there at the moment," Luffy explained calmly. He pointed towards the grate with his index finger, causing a brief flash of lightning to shoot out and ignite the wood, starting a fire.
"So you're saying we came all this way for nothing?" Sanji exclaimed, causing Luffy to let out a sigh before responding. "Don't worry, she will definitely come here because this is her residence," Luffy reassured, attempting to calm his cook. "We'll wait here for some time, and if necessary, I'll go search for her and bring her back to attend to Nami," Luffy stated, causing Sanji to relax slightly.
"I'll wait outside for her," Luffy said as he exited the room and descended to the first floor. Stepping outside, he leaned against one of the pillars, folding his arms as he patiently anticipated the doctor's arrival. With his captain's coat fluttering in the wind, Luffy stood steadfastly, ready to greet the doctor upon his return.
