Cheng Rong and Lin Mufan had been friends for a long time. When he heard Lin Ye say that Lin Mufan had gotten to such a state, he could not help but become worried for this old friend of his. 

the two of them had a lot of misunderstandings between each other, especially after that scandal back then but that did not mean that Cheng Rong did not worry from time to time. 

The two had been rivals in business but privately, they often shared a cup or two of tea.
