"Wisdom," Liara elbowed me hard on the shoulder, "I'm going on record to say this is the dumbest plan you've ever come up with."

"I told you not to come," I elbowed her back. 

"Remind me to listen next time," she sighed. 

"Yeah…" My brow creased. "Assuming we have a next time." 

Night had just fallen, but this place we arrived at was already veiled in an unnatural darkness conjured to protect the creatures hiding just beyond where the soft light of my hearthstone could reach them. They were all around us, their softly glowing crimson eyes fixed unblinkingly at Liara and me as if the host of vampires who surrounded us as soon as we arrived in their territory were trying to intimidate us with their numbers.
