In the book, it was mentioned that the Battle of Chosens was usually done like a tournament where there would be knockout stages, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and then finals.

The tournament could be done in various formats, like for example, maybe a two on two, two on one, three on two, battle royal, capture the flag, and so on.
