The field of static shrunk even further, now reduced into almost something nonexistent as Alset looked at me with hope in her eyes. It was almost painful to look at; to know that I might let her down after all this posturing was terrifying to think about.
"Are you sure? Are you sure you can do it?"
I discreetly gestured everyone to back off as I finally took the last step and hugged the girl, "Yes. I'm absolutely sure. If not, then I'll die trying anyway."
A choked gasp erupted from the girl's lips. I can feel her tears dripping onto my shoulder as she cried. If my earlier feeling of fear was but a spark then, now it was an inferno of terror at the thought of failing now. It'd be a monumental disaster for me if this last shot wouldn't even manage to put a dent into the effort of achieving peace. And for some reason, I have a feeling that I just added another blade over my neck in the event that I do fail harder than a diamond in this endeavor.
