"N-No. Nothing," Halcyon raised his hands, although his cheeks continued to burn, "as I said repayment for your help. And I'll report you if you leave to go somewhere else, you're supposed to be here on paper for your safety." He paused. "School policy."
"They're not going to stop me from leaving!" Rue had gasped up at him with eyes that were sweeter than summer, puddled gold. "We're all adults here. Why would they care?"
"They will, if they find out you're sleeping all around campus illegally," Halcyon answered. "I'll track you." This had his smile growing. "I'll sniff you out."
Rue had snorted, and turned to look at him with a side glance. "Because you've decided that you're going to stalk me?"
"No, because I'll protect you."
"Oh, Halcyon, what makes you think I need protection? And from you of all people?" Rue's eyes had been sharp, but then there was a low sigh from him. A gentle voice that he loved so dearly escaped his lips, soft like fresh snow and feathers. "I—It wasn't about that." Rue looked at him then. "I know you're stronger now, that your past doesn't define you."
This had him smiling, his Alpha loving his attention, his care. "I'm no prey, I've grown."
"You're not a bunny," Rue agreed. "But I'm fine, I'm not—I'm not being attacked, Halcyon. I'm alright. It's safe here—"
"It's not safe," Halcyon replied sharply, pondering for a moment what would convince the small, little Alpha. A scent drifted in the air one that he loved dearly, but for now, had his eyes lighting up with excitement. A perfect solution."Levi's in the walls."
"In the walls?" Rue had blinked, then stared. "What?"
Halcyon had snapped a curled, beast-like hand into the shadows and tore the offending Alpha from the cracks. His fingers brushed over the Alpha's neck, over the scar of his mating bite. Levi sighed, a curled hiss that shuddered from the base of his throat as he was peeled from the darkness.
He sagged in Halcyon's now larger arm like a kitten, hanging from his claws. And Rue inhaled, noisy and sharp. The horror that ballooned across his face was one that Halcyon greedily relished. And when Rue stumbled back Halcyon knew he had won.
Levi groaned in his arms.
"Halcyonie," he'd lamented, "just trying to see what's going on. Thought you'll kill our newest baby." He struggled and then sagged. "Can you let go of me?" He glanced back at Rue, a flush on his cheeks. "This isn't how—I wanted you to know." He sucked on his lower lip, fidgeted. "Fuck."
Levi had the nerve to look at Rue like he was a prize as if he hadn't spent the earlier half of the year trying desperately to convince Halcyon to drop his first love. As if he hadn't scolded the duo, Halcyon and Valentino, saying that they were idiots for crushing so hard on an ugly prick.
Halcyon had stared at Levi and his soulmate seemed to remember that, avoiding his eyes with a haughty sniff.
Halcyon had scoffed. "You're just here because you want to kiss him." His teeth barred just a little, a hiss in his throat; warning edged in his voice. And Levi only smirked, head tilted annoyingly gorgeous, a pout on his lips. It reminded him that he had yet to taste Rue on his lips and that had him bristling.
"Jealousy is unbecoming on you Hal," Levi had mused, and this had him bristling. "It was guiding."
"Guiding," Halcyon repeated, eyes narrowing. He dropped Levi on the ground, and the hades hissed, rubbing his ass as he stood. "And you did it on Rue of all people knowing the record that you hold."
"Oh please," Levi sighed. "He's good at it, what do you want me to do?"
"Levi?" Rue had gaped and blinked twice. "What the fuck man?"
Levi smiled, and Halcyon held back the urge to hold Rue to his chest and sweep him away. "Darling, I just wanted to see if you're alright."
Halcyon had smiled then, snapped out of his boiling rage. "My point exactly. Levi's in the walls, and he should not be there." There was a wide look in Rue's eyes, dots connecting. "And there's another naughty Alpha in the light." A wing peeled from his back fanned and swept. Out tumbled Kieran, spilling into his feathers. "Kieran," Halcyon greeted.
"Halcyonie," Kieran had the nerve to appear bashful. "The sun was just right here, I thought I'd take a quicker route in the rays. Your room was just such an easy landing pad. I thought I'd come in and surprise you—"
Rue's eyes snapped to the alien. "Kier?"
Kieran startled at Rue's words, cheeks flushed with summer. And Halcyon noted now the dart of his eyes towards Rue, the flicker of his glow, tasting Rue's gorgeous skin. This had Halcyon growling, moving forward to stand before Rue. But his shadows only allowed for Levi to let loose a soft sigh of contentment.
A gasp erupted from Halcyon, annoyance brimming from his throat. His mates were feasting on Rue like vampires, drinking in the dribbles of his energy. And it must be the reason why Rue had bags under his eyes and a weakness in his limbs.
They'd been sucking energy from him.
"Kieran and Levi have always been looking at you in your room," Halcyon murmured, sweeping Rue back with a raised hand. Rue stumbled but didn't protest, his face was ghost-white. "Seen things they'd like to see. Things you don't want them seeing," his expression grew smug.
"Fucking hell," Rue choked, seeming almost nauseous for a moment. "Did you see me change?"
"Of course not," Levi snapped, cheeks pink, "I have more decency—"
Halcyon interrupted him then. "With me, they won't see a thing because I'll know where they are. So what do you think? I'll give you space. Just like old times back at Astro." He said that for good measure, tried to remind Rue that he was the old-time friend. And one that was a lot more trustworthy than his mates. "It'd benefit you. I'll give you what you want." His eyes caught with Rue's. "Anything you want."
"I want my own bed, and my own bathroom."
"Sure," Halcyon nodded. "There's only one bathroom here. My bathroom."
Halcyon lied.
He could create more if he wanted to, and get a couple of contractors down. But the opportunity to share that privacy with Rue was much more enticing. To see Rue, soft and with sleep in his eyes, a toothbrush in his mouth, half-dressed like they were husbands—that would be heaven.
There was doubt in Rue's eyes and Halcyon hurried to end it.
"You wouldn't have to use the one outside. It'd be ours."
"But—"
"It's just me Rue," Halcyon said, eyes meeting his. His hands brushed Rue's, surface tingling and the jolt of warmth was familiar and good. "You know me, you've seen me at my worst. Let me repay that at the very least. Let me show you that I'm trustworthy."
"I—" Rue pursed his lips, then sighed. "Fine." Halcyon knew he had won when Rue turned towards Kieran and Levi, fingers pinching the bridge of his nose. "This is so fucked up."
Kieran was the first to try to make amends. "Rue," Kieran murmured, rubbing fingers through his hair. "I was just worried—"
"So, you've been lingering in my lights? Don't ever fucking do that again."
There was a sharpness in Rue's tone, one that had Kieran shuddering against the ground. They couldn't sense the command in Rue's voice, the authority that seeped. It was not like a poseidon's, where their voices would brainwash and nudge.
Rue's was strong, swept and spoke directly to their second gender.
"This is my first time! I promise you I've never looked at you secretly." Kieran begged; eyes almost teary. It had Halcyon surprised, to see the despair that brimmed from that mere statement. That anger from Rue was enough for him to cry. "It was only to check in on you because Levi said—"
"And you, Levi?" There was a pause from Rue, a strange contemplation. "You've always been in my shadow, you little shit."
"You do look at me sometimes," Levi drawled, smirk on his lips. "I thought you were just crazy talking to yourself in the dark."
"Goddamn you." Rue hissed. "I was talking to you!"
"But you weren't sure," Levi murmured, fingers through his hair. "Hal's right, you need protection. Doesn't hurt to stay in a prettier space with a watchdog that'll drop everyone else just for you."
His eyes narrowed, snapped back to Halcyon then to Rue.
"But who am I to know what you need? I was just wasting my time looking out for an Alpha that comes home with their blood filled with all kinds of poison. Forgive me, for looking out for you!" There was a snap in his voice, a hiss that had Rue blinking.
"That's still creepy as fuck and wrong," Rue snapped. "Sure, stare at me all you want in a public space, tell me you're worried. But why are you looking out for me in my fucking room?"
Levi opened his mouth to protest.
Rue hissed. "Don't you dare gaslight me when you know you're wrong, could have caught me pants off and I wouldn't have known you were looking. So what the fuck did you see?"
"Just you studying like the crazy nerd you are," Levi snapped. "I didn't see your dick and balls if you're that concerned."
"I am!" Rue snarled, and this time there was command in his voice. One that had his Alpha struggling, but his mates didn't seem to notice it. But Halcyon noted the quiver in their limbs. The way Kieran stepped forward trying to calm him down, and Levi trembled. "I don't want you looking at my fucking dick! Is that wrong? Is it wrong for me to want some fucking privacy?"
"It's probably small as fuck," Levi sniffed, and rolled his eyes. "Is that why you're concerned? That I'd see it and laugh at you? That a micro penis is my biggest concern in our life? Who the fuck cares about dick size? There are too many big dicks in this household and taking a huge knot fucking hurts. I'd fuck you; you don't have to fuck me. Doesn't matter who tops in a guide, even if I'd prefer taking you in my ass since you're such a macho Alpha little shit. And if you want that, sure! You don't have to make me cum, I just want you—"
Kieran stepped forward then with a gentle voice. "Levi." Rue seemed scandalized; mouth open wide enough for flies.
"Fine, fine. I'm sorry, won't happen again. Last time, last warning. If it happens report me to the authorities." Levi said. "But choose the lapdog, he's big and he plays fetch really good." He nudged his head towards Halcyon, and Halcyon growled at the insult. Levi was mad, but Halcyon would allow it because the odds were in his favour. "But I'm still your employer." Levi pursed his lips together, fingers waving. "And I'd still like your services."
Rue laughed. "Fuck that, you're a scammer—"
"A 100,000 for the damages Dante did to you." Rue gaped at him as the money poured into his account, and Levi smirked, head tilted. "I'm a generous asshole. You should know that."
"Well, you sure are an asshole."
"Won't bring in anyone new, just me, as we've agreed."
"I don't know," Rue snorted. "I'm kind of sick of your shit. You—mph."
Halcyon stared, and watched with wide eyes as Levi lunged forward, and pressed his lips onto Rue's, open mouth tongue out. And it was sexy, watching spit wet and stringy exchanged from lip to lip. The syrup of Rue's little mouth opened into a breathy gasp, the fog of heat, the smack of wet sound.
The arousal that filled Halcyon, sticky against his thighs, chub just as quick as Kieran's and Levi's did. The bulge of it was tight. The smell of arousal burning in the air like caramel silk and peachy sweet cream. The sight of tongue, teeth, gum and lips, pressed and parted like filthy, dirty, sex.
It was disappointing that he couldn't smell Rue's arousal. One that made him hyper-aware of the fact that Rue had told him again and again—he only wanted Omegas, not Alphas. And it seemed that the others were just as disappointed by that, a droop in Levi's shoulders and a low growl at the back of his throat.
He pressed harder, deeper as if trying to get him to perfume, hips grinding. But Rue only snapped.
"Fuck!" Rue pushed back, lips kissed swollen, ears red and glowing in his cheeks. Saliva soaked over raw lips, a string of it connecting the two. There was pink on his cheeks, pink that made Halcyon perk up at the sight. Perhaps, there was still an attraction. "Goddamn you Levi—" He wiped at his mouth vigorously.
"Twenty thousand," Levi promised, fingers swiping up. There was resignation on his features, a disappointment that Halcyon rarely saw in the proud sex god. "For your troubles." He saluted him with a smile. "Thank you, I'll come back for more eventually unless you'd like a hundred thousand?" Rue paused, startled by the number.
"What do you want?" Rue hissed. And Halcyon knew now that money was Rue's weakness. Kieran's breath caught then, just as surprised.
"Let me jerk you off, really good?"
"FUCK OFF!" Rue snarled. "Stay out of my damn space!" He moved back then and grabbed the duffel on the ground. Halcyon pursed his lips together. Ah, perhaps money was not the true weakness. Was kissing really the only thing on the table? It seemed odd coming from an Alpha who would surely touch another stranger for a Rut.
Kieran sighed and pulled at Levi's collar, his eyes darting to Halcyon. "Come on let's go before you make him really mad."
"I am really mad," Rue interrupted. Kieran didn't bother correcting Rue.
"Let me finger your asshole?" Levi tried one last time. "Stroke your perineum? How about a list of body parts and you tick off the ones you're okay with?"
"Get the fuck out of our room!" Rue hissed. "Come back when you give me real requests you horny dog!"
Halcyon's heart was pounding like crazy, cheeks burning with excitement. Our room. Our room. Our room. The silence that followed the shut of the door was heart-pounding. And Halcyon found the awareness of it tingling on his skin.
They were alone, together.
Rue looked at him, and there was a glow in those eyes. "Where's my bed?"
Triumphed danced across Halcyon's face, a smile breaching. "Follow me."
It might be fate for seven roses to blossom on a single stalk, destined to be together. But was it his fault that Halcyon's eyes had long strayed, lingered on another sweeter flower that grew by his side?
The six might have his soul, but they were not the moon.
