It was dangerous.
Even Mama would have her hide for considering the deal, much less walking into the den of a hades.
The top seven planets of the universe were the stuff of legend, their apex predators named after gods, a single citizen wealthier than the rest of the world. The top seven housed the emperors of the universe, the exploiters of the cosmos, and the elite.
Rich motherfuckers with silver spoons stuffed deep in their throats, planets where poverty meant a house, two cars, two kids and a wad of cash at the end of the month. Planets that did not have people living out on the streets in the cold, and children hungry at night.
Citizens of undeveloped planets would only speak of their kind in myths, fairytales, and stories. Dreams. Mostly because it didn't fucking matter to them what the rich dealt with when they had better things to worry about, like shelter, water and food.
Why learn about the aliens one couldn't touch or see?
Rue's brows furrowed, mind darting swiftly to the nights spent with her feet dangling from the railings of a stairwell, listening to her aunties sing with a croaky vocal fry. They'd perform naked on the pole to the oddest of songs, but Rue wasn't one to judge.
One controls the skies—the temperature, the climate, the universe.
Two reign in darkness—death, loss and destruction.
Three rules water—life, future, and seas.
Four's filled with beasts—carnality, warfare and the living.
Five, the house of love—sex, lust and dreams.
Six, a realm of wings—messages, relationships and vices.
And seven, the land of light—growth, produce and beginnings.
And that was all that Rue knew of the top seven planets. Real information was highly classified, spread via word of mouth, and whispered amongst aristocrats and nobles. Which made even the smartest student—someone like Rue—a little daft when it came to the top.
Hades? They were from planet two, and they were said to be fiery, blood-loving and creepy. Her lips pursed, thoughts moving to the ugly hades mascot shirts with dark emo ink right up in a goth's ally. But a zeus? A being of One? Her mind spun, confused.
All she knew was that they shat clouds and pissed rainbows. They were walking showers and blow-dryers, could make rain and control the winds. But with clouds came lighting, which was why Rue knew without a doubt that she must have made a dangerous decision.
She'd call it revenge money-making. And like revenge procrastination, and revenge everything, it was decision-making coloured by stupidity. Because with Seraphim souring her thoughts, and a home ruined by an Alpha roommate, Rue wanted money fast. She wanted it heavy in her pockets, she wanted to be rich. She wanted enough for her to never get on her knees and need coin like she needed water.
She wanted to be free.
Kissing a hot hades who'd saved her ass seemed reasonable enough, but getting pimped out by him was not. Rue hissed. Especially if another customer wanted to kill her again. The rich were cows to be milked, but there was only so much she could give.
Her life was not one of them.
"No," she glared at Levi with a snarl, ignoring the zeus and his haughty demand. But the truth was, her pits were sweating. "I agreed to you. Just you." This had him pausing, eyes dragging over her, a pleased smile coiling across his face. He uncrossed his arms, and leaned back with a proud chafe from his nose. The idiot. "You're not pimping me out like your new whore for anyone who offers, just because you had first dibs."
"I'm flattered," Levi laughed, low and husky, stepped a little closer, eyes sparkling a lot brighter, incisors just a tad sharper. "But he needs help, and I thought you might agree." The purse of his lips was alluring, his smile twice as blinding. She'd cave to his beauty if she hadn't grown so used to gorgeous Alphas flocking to her personal space.
Rue cursed, eyes darting to the zeus. She struggled to think, but God it was like trying to recall the characteristics of animals in a zoo. There was something about them that made them awfully dangerous, more dangerous than just lightning. But she couldn't quite remember exactly what.
She considered him then. Her eyes snapped over him once more, quick and hasty, drinking it all in. Dante was pretty. (She lied, he was fucking hot.) He was broad, dense everywhere, carved like a tree that she could climb over and fuck. Her cheeks grew warm with blood, but she shook it out of her head.
He had a body that made Alphas seem puny and everyone else appear weak. A neck thicker than most, corded muscles of brilliant velvety steel, and biceps that rippled and squeezed. Strength was burned into his structure, for he was sculpted like art, hewn with the most gorgeous of masculine bodies. And behind a messy head of golden hair, were those awful electric eyes that sizzled and burned.
He looked like an Alpha, like pack Alpha, like he could crush a man's skull with his bare hands and fuck an Omega so hard with just his fingers she'd squirt. And she'd let him do it. Because those fingers were thick, and just two would curl up so good in a cunt—
This had her backpaddling, crashing her thoughts hard into smithereens before it could escalate.
"Not a charity here," Rue stated, rubbing her nose making sure that the mint was really working. Because damn, was she going a little crazy. "Next thing I know you're pocketing fifty and paying me ten. I know the way pimps work." Goddamn it, just when she was starting to like Levi.
"Charity?" Dante hissed, voice deepening so low it had her feverish cunt clenching. "I am a zeus, and the—"
"Species doesn't matter to me," she snapped, crossed her arms. "And it shouldn't, not when I'm the scum of everyone's shoes, but you're the ones begging. We're not on equal footing here. You…" She pointed to her feet. "Need me." This had his glare deepening, foxy eyes growing strangely dilated.
"Calm down," Levi interrupted, with a low hum. "Rue, you're precious to me, darling," Levi promised, head tilted smile growing as he stared at the zeus. Dante grew silent with his words, remaining quiet like a lap dog, stepping back. "If I could have your lips all to myself I will."
"Bullshit," she called, waved her hands. "Do better."
"I will," Levi purred, eyes lidded voice growing raspy the timbre of it like velvet. His fingers curled, ghosted under her chin. "I'd kiss you until air becomes commodity, and our bodies feel like one. You make me a broken man, Rue. You make my mates pale in comparison and your blood? Gods, it's so fucking sweet. I dream of it every fucking night with a fist on my cock." He smiled pretty, innocent and gummy as if he hadn't just spat filth. "You can ask Ki who's screaming your name now."
"Suck up," Rue narrowed her eyes, but her heart soared, messy butterflies in her tummy. It was all just talk, and she'd heard compliments in all its shape and form when an Alpha wanted to fuck anything with a hole. But her heart hammered so hard in her chest it was becoming harder to breathe.
"The only thing I'm really interested in sucking is your cock, preferably with a little blood." Levi grinned. "Or if you'd like since you're so adverse to cock sucking. I could eat your ass out. My tongue's godly as a dildo—"
"Disgusting. Explain this," she waved her arms in the air, "to me, now."
Levi blew out a low breath, and then a sigh. "Dante here," he tilted his head to the side. "He needs help desperately. He's been in Rampage for years, tortured, stuck like I was deep in the shadows. You can't see it here, but he's in pain. And he doesn't need much—"
"Get a guide," she interrupted. "Get ten, twenty. Hell, a hundred. I'm sure it'll work…Eventually."
"He needs you," Levi stated clearly. "Someone with your skill. Someone that can do it fast."
"I'm not a professional, Levi. I'm a student."
"But we can try."
"He just threatened to kill me!" she snapped; hands wrung out in exasperation. "Who'd kiss that thing?" Dante rippled at her words, eyes glowing with heat. She raised her hands. "You're the one that started it man, not me."
"Well," Levi murmured, his smile flickering. "He'll pay double, right?"
"I will," Dante agreed, but rage remained hot in his eyes. "Forty thousand."
Rue paused, genuinely considered his words, lips pursed. This seemed to have the effect she wanted for the panic escalated in Levi's eyes. The anxiety spreading into Dante's own deepening frown. The electricity crackled, and snapped onto the ground but Rue held her ground, feigned disinterest with a check of her nails.
"Please," Levi breathed, dark eyes rounder than usual. The lazy nonchalance was gone, replaced by a strange vulnerability that coloured his features. "Just this once. Please." She stopped then, shuffled feet, and scratched cheek.
"Pay upfront and he apologises."
"Sure," Levi agreed, turned to the zeus with a wave of his hand. "Go on."
