"How many days will you be in town?" asked Nathan.

  Kylie shrugged. "Until Reef's next scheduled check-up I guess. I'm here to accompany Reef home."

  "You care about him a lot. Too much so. I heard that you once dated Reef. Is that why you went to the trouble of picking him up?"

  "What exactly did you want to ask me, Nathan?"

  Nathan smiled from behind his newly sipped wine glass. "Just curious," he said. "Not many ex-boyfriends are still in close contact with each other."

  "You're rich," Kylie mocked. "Our poor lives are simpler than you think. All of your ex-girlfriends might antagonize you for not managing to squeeze as much money out of you as they'd like. But Reef and I don't have those kinds of demands. We were dating because we wanted to date, no shrimps under a rock. After we were done, we then realized that our relationship was enjoyable as friends. Besides, I knew from the start that Reef only loved one woman. Bella Ross."
