Bab 15: Chapter 15: Fruitless

Jake's POV

He must be stupid. His brain must have fallen clear out of his head.

That was the only explanation for what Jake had done last night.

He'd followed a scent trail. There was a stench winding through the streets, a filthy smell like rotten flesh. Sometimes, he was jealous of regular humans. They bustled around him, unable to smell it, but he was nearly gagging.

Jake had made the decision to shift because he liked the clarity.

In his wolf form, he could see better, hear better, smell better. He kept some aspects of those while in his human form, but they were amplified by the shift.

However, there was a slight animalistic quality that made that easier.

Especially when it came to foul smells.

The shift had helped keep him from being ill. However, some of his human common sense always seemed to get stuck behind in the human brain. It wasn't like he was purely animal in the wolf form, just a little...different.
