Bab 34: Momentary relief

Leila’s POV

Relief flooded through me after being reunited with Jace. He was fast asleep, clinging to my hand to be sure I didn’t go anywhere.

He woke up earlier and ate a bowl of soup before I lulled him to sleep. His tiny hands looked delicate compared to my large ones.

I begged Aunt Maurice to go home and get some rest. I’d be fine on my own.

Jace wasn’t a rowdy child. He would sometimes be super active and chatty but on most days. He preferred to play and get lost in his own magical world.

He made me think of a childhood I couldn’t enjoy. Ever since I adapted to my surroundings, I have always been in survival mode.

If I didn’t try to find food on my own, I would die of starvation.

Shelter was another story but one that made up for it was by locating abandoned buildings. I managed to keep myself safe.

Those were the kind of experiences that I didn't want my son to suffer. He deserved love and be taken care of.
