Chapter 148: Crimson hell
The tree guards were shallow by an electrical discharge that burned their clothes and skin, turning them into a smoking mess.
"This one has become a monster too…" Buggy observed in dismay.
"I'm in love…" Said Sanji while a thin streak of blood ran through his face.
"Get your head down!" Vivi pushed his head away before it got worse.
"So, the next level is through those windows, right?' Asked Luffy.
"Yes, but maybe we could find some stairs or-"
Luffy grabbed hold of the clown and dragged him along while punching the wall where the windows were located. "This way!"
Their Captain went through the hole while carrying the screaming Buggy.
"Noooo!"
"A forest!" Shouted Luffy.
"There's a forest inside this place? I love forests!" Exclaimed Chopper.
"Wait, Chopper, don't ju-" Vivi could not finish her sentence before the dear followed Luffys steps.
Nami walked to the border and looked down.
"There is something odd about those trees…"
"Oh well… let's find out."Vivi picked up Nami, bride style.
The navigator gasped in surprise.
"Vivi!, what are you doing?"
"Following our Captain." Vivi jumped down while carrying Nami and Sanji went behind them.
The cook had already mastered the 'Geppo' technique during the two years of training so he had no issues getting down without touching the trees.
"There is soo much red in those trees!" Yelled Nami while they were descending at great speed.
"That's blood! Look closer at those 'trees'." Advised Vivi.
Nami narrowed her eyes and extended her senses.
"Oh no!. There are a lot of injured people down there! And those things are made of metal spikes!" She finally realized.
Vivi noticed Nami's grip on her neck getting stronger and knew that she was worried.
"It's okay Nami, nothing here will hurt you. I can guarantee that."
Vivi's words seemed to have an immediate effect and Nami loosened the grip a bit.
The rest of the crew had already landed. Luffy, Chopper, and Sanji were all on top of Buggy who seemed to be immune to the metal spikes that were coming from the ground.
"Hey!, why is the deer and the blond guy also on top of me?!" Complained Buggy.
"Shut up!." Sanji looked up and saw Vivi descending while holding Nami.
"How come they haven't landed yet? They jumped together with Sanji, right?" Asked Chopper.
"Now that you mentioned it…" Sanji.
"They have been slowing down for a while now." Said Luffy.
Nami finally realized that they were not going to crash against the ground and started to relax.
"Wait…why are we falling so slow?"
Vivi chuckled. Once they were only a few feet from the ground, they suddenly stopped moving a stayed levitating over the spiky ground.
"We are not falling at all now."
"What?!" Exclaimed Nami. She looked down at Vivi's feet and they were just floating in the air with nothing below.
"You can fly now? that's so cool!" Commented their Captain.
"I was already able to fly before…I'm just better at it now. I can float around but is not very fast. Now, shall we?" Vivi looked towards the distance, indicating her wish to keep moving.
"Right…Come on, let's move!" Luffy tapped on the head of Buggy.
"I'm not a horse!" The clown was about to complain some more when he saw the threatening gaze that Vivi was giving him.
"S-So…I think is this way!"
His legs started running on their own through the many spikes with no problems while the rest of his body remained in the air and moved, even with his three passengers on top.
Vivi smiled slightly at seeing Buggy display. In reality, the trick that she was using to fly was not that different from what the clown was doing.
"How do we get to level 2 from here?" Asked Luffy.
"This level is called the 'Crimsom Hell' and the exit from this place is something that everyone is familiar with." Commented Buggy.
"They know where the exit is? Then why would they stay here? being cut all day by all those spikes?" Asked Sanji.
"Because the only way to leave this hell is by going into that hole over there." Buggy pointed forward to a gigantic hole in the middle of the forest.
"And that hole leads to the level 2…"
Buggy stopped moving after reaching the border of the hole and Vivi stopped beside him.
"Are you saying that level 2 is so bad that people prefer to stay here, suffering all day?" Asked Nami.
"What could be worse than this?" Chopper looked around in horror at seeing all those injured people.
"I only went down there once in the last 2 years…there are some terrifying monsters down there…" Buggy hesitated while looking down the hole.
"There is no point in waiting here!. If Ace is going through the same things as those guys…" Luffy looked at the screaming prisoners being cut and stabbed by the spikes that covered the area.
Their Captain then grabbed Buggy by his shirt and jumped down.
"Wait!, noooo!" Screamed the clown.
"Scared?" Asked Vivi to Nami.
Nami chuckled. "Hey, I'm not the same one from two years ago. And is not like it's the first time we go against a government facility…"
"And it won't be the last…I can guarantee you that." Said Vivi.
"Ladies…" Started Sanji. "If you would like to hold on to me…I can take you down safely!" He looked up for a moment to stare at the two girls.
Before he could make it that far, he was kicked by Vivi and went down the hole while screaming.
"Sorry!. But we can't have you passing out now!" Vivi apologies.
She then grabbed Nami and held her bride-style and gave her a wink.
"Ready, my lady?"
"I think you are enjoying this a bit too much…" Nami gave her a cute frown.
