Marcus Cutler POV:

I woke up slowly, finding myself in the Inquisition field hospital.

I wasn’t surprised to wake up there as much as I was surprised to wake up at all. Another surprise that was much more pleasant was waking up to find Julia lying in bed with me. She was still in her jacket, jeans, and boots from last night, meaning her falling sleep with me hadn’t been planned.

Still, I was glad she was here.

I smiled as I looked at her. Julia looked as though she was in a peaceful sleep, though her moving eyelids told me she was dreaming. I hoped she was dreaming about something nice.

I reached out with a strength I didn’t think I should have, and placed my hand on Julia’s cheek, caressing her lovely face.
