"Don't you think you've asked me to kill you too many times now? What about a change of pace and asking me to rescue you or something?" I attempted to lighten the mood with a joke, but Aidan remained stoic and serious.

"I will have my eyes changed soon. I overheard them talking. Once that happens, I will be completely under their control. I won't be myself anymore. I need you to understand that," he explained, his voice filled with a mix of resignation and fear.

"Then, it's all the more reason why we should leave immediately. Let's go now. We can leave everything behind and build a new life together. Did you know that there are more countries in this world than the Parliament ever told us?" I pleaded, holding his hands tightly, hoping to convince him to escape with me.

He clasped my hands in his, his grip firm yet trembling. "My body functions like a computer now. When I am activated, I lose all control, even consciousness."
