The spirit of Bloody Bridget was raised in me like called on by an Ouija board. It wasn’t the same as before, far from the unhinged violence I felt from the void before I knew what it was, it was something else entirely.

It was something more coldly calculating, working in cooperation with my natural creativity in a new, and slightly frightening, clarity and complexity. Seeing things from angles I never knew existed before. The villains were coming for us, for our babies, but we were going to be ready in a way they would never see coming.

“Luke says they got the gate closed,” Ellis said, as we rushed home in a hired taxi. “Let’s hope it holds. We might be able to avoid a brawl after all.”
