Chapter 261: Broken Ground
Olivia POV
My breath caught as the call was accepted. I didn’t know what time it was wherever Carl was, sometime in the afternoon by my calculations, adjusting for our time difference. Ellis was thoughtful enough to put it on speaker so I could listen too. What came through was not at all what I had been hoping for.
“Dad?” Carl asked, sounding more confused than I felt.
“I’m here, son,” Ellis said, trying to stay firm.
“I—I fucked up Dad.”
“What happened?”
I could hear the edge of concern in his tone. It was doubtful anyone else would, but I knew him too well.
“I just felt a little cooped up, you know, with the security and everything. Anyway, I decided to go out.”
“Why would you do that?” Ellis shouted loud enough to be heard back in Inverness.
“I was going a bit stir-crazy.”
“A bit? It sounds like more than a bit to me,” Ellis said, calming down.
