Chapter 242: Look At Me

I checked my watch again, Olivia taking longer than usual. Any number of scenarios ran through my already slightly paranoid mind, alertness basically my default setting.
“Should I go check on her?” Jenny asked, following my gaze to the hallway leading to the bathroom.
“No, I’m sure she's fine,” I said, my pulse climbing up with every second.
As I spoke Livy arrived, at about the same time as the food, which took longer than usual because they only had two cooks on that night.
I knew in my bones something was wrong. It was nothing tangible, just a feeling. Probably because she clearly reapplied her eye makeup, things came out looking a little wonky the second time.
“Hey, sorry about that,” she said, putting on a brave face.
