"Wakey, wakey!" Harper said as she belly-slammed me.
For a girl that's dead, she is extremely heavy.
"What was that for?!"
"It's almost time for us to head out to the Hunter's Association," Noel said in a robotic tone.
I checked my cellphone, it was fifteen minutes until six.
I curse under my breath. That leaves me a little under half an hour to head to the Hunter's Association. Then I remembered that I could fly.
I removed Harper from on top of me and did a quick run-down of my morning routine.
Since I will be doing some physical activity, I decided to cook breakfast high in nutrients and other essentials.
After breakfast, I made my way up onto the rooftop of my building. Doing a leap of faith, I ignited the soles of my feet and blasted off like a rocket. Despite it being less than twenty degrees outside, It feels like it's mid-summer due to my flames.
I made it to the Hunter's Association building in under two minutes. If I practice with my powers more, I believe that I will become even faster. But I have to put that on the backburner as getting my license is a top priority.
When I headed inside, the place was already packed with people. I am probably the youngest guy here as most people looked to be over the age of twenty. Many eyes were watching me as I signed in and paid for the entrance exam. It was either due to my age or the fact that I have two ghosts following me like a shadow.
"Oh crap," I murmured. "I forgot you two were ghosts."
"That's your problem," Harper said in a mocking tone.
"Why are you two even out? There's no point in it."
"There is," Noel said. "We don't feel like being inside of you."
"Pause." some random guy said next to me.
"Sir, please!" I scolded.
The man next to me hung his head in shame. He should feel ashamed for eavesdropping in on our conversation.
"Anyway, I guess there's no point in complaining about it now. I wasn't planning on trying to make friends here. We're just here to get our license and then go on with our mission."
Besides, it's not like I'll see any of the strangers again. I guess having the Frost sisters out and about won't harm me.
After about fifteen minutes of waiting, a huge bald man's face full of scars came into the room. Judging from his appearance, he must be the proctor for the test. Never mind, he just sat down right in front of me.
Seconds later after the fake proctor came in, a woman dressed up in a whole clown costume came bustling in. Clown isn't the right word for it as she is wearing a tattered white shirt, some jeans cut so they became shorts and black gogo boots.
I have always had a fascination with fashion for as long as I can remember, I subscribed to two fashion magazines and a couple of BlueTube fashion channels. Despite my love for fashion, I have no desire to work in the fields, because it's just admiration. I believe it's best to have a diverse range of interests to make oneself a well-rounded individual.
The one thing that I like about her is her dual-color hairstyle tied in twin tails. One side is cherry red, while the other is ebony black. She'll stand out in the crowd that's for sure.
"Sorry that I'm late. Traffic was hell and I had to stop by and get some breakfast." She placed down her coffee and a white bag on the desk.
"Is she actually a hunter? She seems awfully weak to kill a demon." Harper said.
"How can you judge someone's strength just by their looks?" I asked, telepathically.
"Easy, I can gauge her strength via a sixth sense. Not only that, Noel and I can see a living person's aura and see their emotions and strength. We in the biz like to call it 'King's Vision'"
"That'll be a useful ability to have."
"Most hunters can be taught to sense life force and observe other people's auras. But we don't have the luxury of time on our side, so you'll just inherit it from Harper and me."
"I'm not going to complain. Training sounds like a pina in the ass."
"My name is Abigail White and I'll be your proctor for today's test. Now, before we begin, did everybody remember to sign the waiver before coming in?"
Now that I think about it, why was it important for us to sign a waiver if all we are doing is taking a test? Something smells fishy around here."
Abigail looked around the class and was satisfied when everybody nodded to her question.
"Good." A big smile came on her face.
She continues.
"I see a lot of people here, that's excellent! I'm guessing you all have big dreams of being a demon hunter. Whether it'll be for revenge or for fiances, frankly I don't give a damn about your reasons. I am telling you now that ninety percent of you won't make good hunters."
The class erupted in angry noise. I agree with them, how can someone just say something so out of pocket.
"Shut the fuck up, you damn maggots!" She yelled.
The entire class quieted down and the whole pressure in the room became really dense.
"What the hell is this feeling?' I asked in my head.
"That's her life force that's being exerted. Not bad for a young girl." Noel said.
"Anyways," her personality change so quickly is quite scary. "This test is going to be a hands-on approach. So I hope all of you brought your A-game today!"
"What do you mean this will be a hands-on approach?" Some guy in the back asked.
Abigail smiled a cheerful smile.
"To pass the test and obtain a demon hunter's license, you need to kill a demon. If that thought scares you, then you are welcome to leave right now. Just to let everybody know, if you do decide to leave, you won't get a refund."
Ten people had gotten up to leave. Can't say that I blame them, I'll be lying if I said that I wasn't scared too. But I just survived fighting a nest of zombies so I have more experience fighting monsters. Besides, I attend to keep my promise to the Frost sisters to help them with their sister.
Abigail continued after the last person left.
"They made the right choice, demon hunting is not for the faint of heart. As for the rest of you, follow me!"
