Lunch went… quite well, all things considered. Between the regenerative pill's effects as well as a nice hour of rest, Dahlia was soon feeling far better than she had been by the end of her magic training. In addition to this, Valentina's company was like a breath of fresh air. She wasn't trying to prove herself to her mother, nor did she have to contend with the constant anxiety that Sabrina induced. For that hour or rest, things felt peaceful and Valentina's presence was one of comfort and safety. As the hour came to a close though, that changed slightly.
It's not that Valentina was no longer a bastion of comfort for Dahlia, but up until that point, they had completely ignored the elephant in the room and had avoided talking about Dahlia's training at all. When the vampiress finally breached the subject though, it signified a notable shift in atmosphere, and Dahlia could already feel a mix of anticipation and anxiety forming in her.
So, this chapter might have been a bit fragmented because I had a whole bunch distractions while writing it (one of which was having my nails done for the first time and typing with them is kinda weird). I hope that me being distracted didn't affect the chapter too much, but I'll have to let you be the judge.
I wanted it to be more fast paced to make up for the slower pace of the previous two chapters, but still... yeah, I guess I'm just worried that I'm emphasizing the wrong things or pacing things poorly. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the matter!
Anyways, my author's note ramble is over and I hope you're having a wonderful day!
