The next morning Zane and Tomas bring waffles and pancakes with a side of eggs and sausages for breakfast to share with Kai and me.
Tomas leaves for a meeting right after breakfast but Zane lingers for a while to catch up. When Kai steps out with Zane to show him some paintings in his studio room, my phone rings. The number is unknown, and hoping it would be Callum, I quickly answer.
I almost cry out in relief when I hear his quiet "Hey, Babe."
"Dammit, Callum. I've been so worried. Where the hell have you been?"
"I'm sorry."
"I wanna see your face. Switch to video."
"Maybe another time? I was just -"
"Now!"
"Fine, fine. Jeez. Calm down, Dad."
I ignore his sarcasm, and a few seconds later I stare into his brown eyes, satisfied now that he is okay. His hair is tousled and sticking out all over his face, and he looks tired with dark circles around his eyes, but he is fine and whole, and that is a relief.
"What happened to you?"
