I couldn't help but notice that Jess was looking at me strangely when I mentioned a mage blowing up the Magician's Association, but I pretended that I didn't notice it. Thankfully, the others didn't really notice anything wrong either.

Eventually, Bryson's father spoke up after taking a deep breath.

"So you say that the times are changing. But what is there for us to do? In the end, we must still defend the city from magical beasts as it is our duty as a noble family. Without it, we will no longer be considered one, as our lifestyle is directly supported by the King."

I narrowed my eyes slightly. He was simply far too naive. Even if we used our lives to defend the lines, our noble status would be lost anyway.

"Do you really believe they will continue supporting us once we are unable to defend the frontlines?"

Bryson's father fell silent for a second. However, he remained fairly stubborn.
