Bab 42: Chapter 42: Near Death

The dragon forms of Dominik, Zephyr, and Kam stand before me, meters taller than me. Around their necks are thick iron collars. As they stare down at me, I see only a faint glimmer of recognition in their eyes.

“Dominik!” I shout, trying to stop him. The Commander laughs behind me.

“They belong to me now,” he says. He then pushes me forward, knocking me to my knees, and snaps his fingers. “Dispose of her.”

Zephyr is the first to react, opening his mouth wide and rocketing forward. I push away, rolling to the side. Air rushes past me as I just manage to avoid being hit by him. I look back as Zephyr writhes into the sky, turning around to face me again.

Suddenly, there’s a squealing roar behind me. I look to see Kam hobbling forward, clawed wings digging into the ground. I scramble to my feet and try to run, just as I hear her begin to take flight. Before I can get far enough away, I feel sharp talons dig into my shoulders, pulling me off the ground.
