Bab 109: Birthday Party

The clinking of glasses and low monotonous could be heard in the room. Different socialites, mostly female, all dressed to impress, came bearing gifts.

Gemma stood next to Miguel, she seemed happy with a fake smile that was pasted on her face as she said hello to her some of the guests that she knew. She was anything but happy but she tried her best not to let it show.

Miguel had his left hand on her lower back, not bothering to smile to keep up appearances. Even when things were going on well with them he rarely smiled in public, so now no one would suspect if a thing was wrong.

Things were still tense between them, they barely spoke to each other save for when it was absolutely necessary.

Gemma tried to will herself into enjoying the party. Just like her mother had wanted, the party was a gold-themed one, and it wasn't as ridiculous as Auntie Dorcas had said it will look.
