Later in the day, Gemma was no longer feeling nauseous, and so she decided to go for the fundraising that Mary had invited her to.
"I was beginning to think that you won't be able to make it," Mary said to her as she came to welcome her.
"I'm sorry, I'm late, I wasn't feeling too well," Gemma said. She opened her purse and took out a mint and placed it in her mouth as she perceived someone's perfume in the room that was beginning to make her stomach turn.
"Oh sorry about that, how are you feeling now?" Mary asked.
"Better." Gemma looked around the ballroom which was already filled with several socialites, she sighted Jane in a corner of the room discussing with a group of women. And Gemma immediately regretted leaving the house.
"Would you like something to drink?" Mary asked her as they waded through waiters carrying champagne flutes that gleamed beneath the lights in the room.
