Elaine said nothing as she only nodded her head. It was no use to bicker with mama because it was improper to keep bickering with an adult. Also, it was because she had to abide by the rule set within the household; children of the Lockhart in Pencia must never go against their parents.

Rosella squeezed Elaine’s hands with a sad face. “Elaine, do you think mama is being reasonable for trying to find happiness for your sister? Are you unhappy with the man that mama chose for you?”

“I am happy, mama. The man you chose for me is the one whom I loved for a very long time. But,” Elaine hesitated to speak. “…must it be someone else for my sister? She had suffered enough since her childhood. She-”

Rosella let go of her hands. “No matter what happened, your sister will not get any blessing from us if she chose that man. Also, I doubt she could find a decent man out there. The outside world is full of thorns and poisons.”
