"You can count on me to keep the Primus' mate safe," Mill promised.

Jael tried not to smile at the way Mill addressed Mauve, but he couldn't deny the joy he felt. She was his, for all to see, and there was no question about it. Unfortunately, she wasn't waking up, and there was no one around with the expertise he could consult.

Kieran wasn't in the castle, and the physician was long gone. Besides, it would take at least two nights to get him here, even if they set out now. Mauve might die of starvation by then. Should they try to force her to eat and hope she could chew and swallow even though she was fast asleep?

He turned around and walked out of his room. He would have to wait and see. She was still sleeping; nothing seemed off, and if she was bothered enough, she mumbled a few things but just wasn't waking up. Was she that exhausted?
