Sarah sighed into her latte, you dropped into the seat across from her depositing a bag of jelly beans onto the greying table top. Some of the coloured sweets scattered across the table, several hit Sarah's fingers that rested on the table. "What's up Reese's pieces?" You asked Sarah, using the nickname you had assigned her when you were kids. Usually she smiled at the nickname or told you to stop calling her that but today all she did was stare at the coloured sweets that littered the table, you grabbed a couple from the bag and tossed them into your mouth. "Sarah?" She didn't look up all she did was run her thumbnail along the side of the cup. "Who do I need to kill?" Jay, who was visiting his brother gave you a look that could only say, You smiled at him, he moved to the table where his brother was face down on the table. Sarah looked up at you and gave you a forced smile. "No one."
"Alright then, what's up?" Sarah shrugged, "Did you lose a patient? Kill a doctor? Someone break your heart? Someone hurt you?" Someone's phone rang as Sarah huffed a breath when you asked if she had killed a doctor. "No none of that. I just..." You looked confused and tried to ignore Jay as he stole a few jelly beans. When Jay reached the doors, he showed you a blue jelly bean that was a bright shade of blue, that was similar to his eyes before tossing it into his mouth. You pressed your lips together to avoid smiling. "Sarah?" She sighed before launching into a rant about how she felt about pathology and whether she should go through with it. "Well what makes you happy, pathology or ED?" Sarah shrugged. "Helpful, Reese's pieces." This time she smiled, she picked a few yellow jelly beans off the table ate them. "So, you coming to my New Year's party tonight." Her brow furrowed, "But New Years is tomorrow night." You shrugged, "We're all working, firehouse 51, Voight's team, the team here at Med. People and alcohol do not mix. Plus, fireworks." You gave a nonchalant shrug. She smiled. "Who's going?" You smiled, "The team at Med, firehouse 51 and Voight's team. Noah will be there." You added. Sarah blushed lightly.
Later that night, the drums from your music pulsed through the walls of your house. You wandered through your lounge, picking up discarded glasses and placing them in your kitchen sink. You left your kitchen and noticed Noah kissing Sarah right as your clock struck midnight. You smiled widely, Will was kissing Natalie, Maggie was kissing some friend of hers. Casey was kissing Gaby, Shay her girlfriend. You walked back into your lounge and saw Jay, who was surprisingly not kissing anyone. He pushed off the wall he was leaning on and made his way to you. You smiled up at him. "I'm surprised that you're not kissing anyone." He shrugged, his blue eyes dancing. "Well, the one I wanted to kiss was busy hiding in the kitchen." You smiled at him, "Who says I was hiding?" He grinned and leaned down to your height, he kissed you lightly. He pulled away a sliver of air between you. "Happy New Year, Y/N." You grinned at him, "Happy New Year, Jay." You leaned forward and kissed him again, ignoring your rather large family's hollers.
