Ruby was silent for a few moments; her eyes looked empty as she realized something. "But why is my thread of death connected to you, Matthew?"

"Because I am the cause of your death." Matthew's smile looked sad, and his eyes darkened after he said that.

Confusion enveloped Ruby's heart, making her speechless. All sorts of scenarios popped up in Ruby's head, making her head start to feel dizzy from too much thinking.

"What do you mean?" Ruby got off Matthew's lap and stood before her husband. "I don't understand."

Matthew also stood up and then held Ruby's shoulder. "In the past, in order to remove the curse that lingered on my soul, Rubelia traded her fate with mine."
