Ian raised his eyebrows at Pipi, who boldly stepped in front of Ian to block the front door.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"Lord Camellius has not permitted you to leave," she replied. "Besides, it is dangerous for you to go out alone."
"I am merely going on a stroll, since Lius will be home late."
"He will be back soon. If anything should happen to you—"
"No worries. I won't be alone."
"Pardon?"
In lieu of an answer, Ian bent down to slip under her outstretched arms and opened the door. Pipi, surprised by his escape, quickly began to chase after him but froze when she noticed a man silently tailing the prince.
Ian passed through the hydrangea-filled garden and began to walk aimlessly. The sunlight filtered through the humid air, a stark contrast to the crisp morning.
"Tell him that I will be returning after a year," Ian said, looking up at the gloomy sky.
