Bab 46: Chapter 46: A Thread of Hope

Scott should have known that something bad would happen again. No matter how hard he tried to convince himself and Florence that everything was ok now, deep down he knew it wasn’t true.

Pearl had been too quiet, and it scared the hell out of him. Florence tried to tell him exactly that, but Scott didn’t want her to stress over it, not during her pregnancy. She had been through a lot already, more than he would ever forgive himself for, and all he wanted now was for Florence to have a normal and calm pregnancy.

But when his phone rang that afternoon and he saw Luke’s name on the screen, Scott simply knew something was wrong. He didn’t know why; he had no reason to think that something was off, but his heart somehow knew.

And when he answered the call with his trembling fingers, Scott couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Luke told him that he had gone out to get Florence some Mexican food, but when he returned, she wasn’t at the apartment anymore.
